Default Mind-Full's Mass Management Minutes

I've always enjoyed walking, but never could commit myself to doing it regularly with little ones in the house and with the traveling my husband does.

This summer, I finally got into a routine and the difference in how it feels to get out and get moving is incredible.

Those who are just starting out on the fitness trail ... it's tiring at first and you feel as though you can't go another step or do another rep. But that's okay. Stick with it and in a few days or a week or maybe a month you'll notice that you aren't tiring out right away and that you get a "runner's high" or walker's, or biker's ... after the first so many minutes of whatever it is you do.

My dad always thought I should run. I'm all legs (length ... not just width!) yet have always felt like I can't run. The other day, after all the weeks of walking, I suddenly felt like I should up the ante on my excersize and ran a bit. It felt great!

Today, I broke out the bike and rode for 45 minutes in the park across the street. It was a great change of pace, though a whole new muscle system ... not to mention the saddle sore problems after not having ridden more frequently! Argh!

So, in mere months (3 to be exact), I've gone from feeling like a slug to feeling like I want to get up and out and do something exhilirating.

Whoo-hoo!

Yesterday: walk
1 hour, 15 minutes
5 miles

Today: bicycle
45 minutes
15 miles

No usual exercise today ... cleaned the pool, which counts a little!

Taking a day off to let muscles repair -- lots of leg work lately and I haven't allowed any resting time.

Walked about 5 miles last p.m., pushing 85 pounds of children in a stroller.

Much smoother stride than I've had before, so I definitely feel a difference over time, something I've not noticed in other exercise regimens in other years without a combination with weight loss.

August 30-31: walked at least 15 miles during these two through the streets of Toronto and the Canadian National Exhibition.

Does a racing heart while standing atop the glass floor in the CN Tower count as cardio?

September 2: 6 miles biking, gear 2:7 (I think that's 14th on a 21-speed) with adjustments to 2:5 on hills. Hoping to up to a full ride at 2:7, then move to the 15th gear and up.

September 3, 2003: started toning exercises with my good ol' Buns/Abs/Thighs of Steel tapes. These things are 10 years old ... and so is some of the fat on me.

Tomorrow - hitting the bike again?

Did my bike route:

5 trips around the lake and once around the perimeter of the park

Got through the lake part of the route in gear 2:7 and switched to 2:5 for the perimeter trip as it's all a gradual uphill trek with a few dips for coasting now and then, but not many.

Came home 5 minutes earlier than usual -- COOL!

After dinner we (the fam) walked about 2.5 miles, not at a good clip for most of it, but walking none the less. Nice little extra and it felt great to get out in the cooler evening weather. Fall is coming!

Walked 3.5 miles this morning at a faster pace than usual ... cooler weather with low, low humidity makes a real difference for speed and stamina.

Planning to bike tomorrow ...

Still putting off another round of ab toning exercises as I can barely sit up from the sore muscles I got last time!

No "formal" exercise today, but planted 5 shrubs, bagged 12 full-grown (small) trees and shoveled and hauled about 150 pounds of dirt, then watered everything ... all while trudging about 500 feet each way for each plant.

I think I worked out.

Walked 3 miles yesterday a.m., then walked another 2 in the evening while on a picnic with family.

Abs workout tonight. Lookout for that six-pack! 888
(Have to have some humor about this. I didn't have six-pack abs when I was 120 pounds at the same height. I doubt I'll start anytime soon).

Monday 9/8 -- ab workout
Tuesday 9/9 -- walking while shopping outlet mall (arrived half hour before they opened and walked the perimeter!)
Wednesday 9/10 -- 3 mile walk in park -- picking up speed?

Walked 3 miles in the morning and another 2.5 this evening, trying to make up for the next two days when I might not have the chance to get out for a formal workout.

Ab workout the a.m. Nearby, Daughter danced to the music of the video I follow ... trying to do exercise moves she has seen before. Funny ... and laughing is good for the abs, too!

Hoping to accomplish a ride on the stationary bike later.

Did a walk instead of a bike ride on that last post, and the next day did a morning walk (3 mi.) and evening (2 mi.).

Skipped Friday and then this morning (Saturday, 9/14) did a 6-mile bike ride and walked the last half mile.

Sunday, 9/14 -- 5 mile bike ride ... I just cannot ride up the hill before heading home. I even tried the hill before taking the rest of my ride and just cannot get to the top without stopping yet.

That is my new goal!

Monday: ab workout and thigh workout
