Welcome back:-))

I am sorry to hear about your rainy Colorado vacation. I was there between 14-20, and had record (90+F) heat.
Oh, but I am sure to BE there already give you great pleasure and rest.
Congratulations for the 4 pounds lost!!!

As a user of a community fitness center I feel your pain... Usually we have to wait less than 24 hours to get fixed anything in our appartments, but days before to get fixed anything in the gym.

Saturday:

Pull towards abdomen - 15~40#s
Pull down - 15~40#s
Leg Extension - 15~20#s

Treadmill: 1.3 miles

I felt kind of physically drained today so I did an easy 30 minutes on the treadmill and my weights. They fixed the one machine but I couldn't get the seat to adjust on the shoulder press. Good news is that I finally figured out that darned seat on the leg extension machine. Now if I can just figure out the shoulder press machine............

Hi there orchidday...

Shoulder press should start with the handles at just above being in line with your shoulders.

I never use it though - I prefer dumbbell press, or even better, arnolds. Have you tried them? They're WONDERFUL, because they hit all three heads of the delts, instead of just the front heads. This helps make your shoulders look broad, instead of curling forward.

Standing lateral raises are a good idea before doing any other shoulder work.
Use a light weight (I only use 10 or 12 pounds after 3 years, this isn't a mass exercise) and pay attention to form. Imagine you are pouring VERY full pots of tea, and try to imagine you are leading a TINY little bit with your elbows, but only a smidge:

Grasp dumbbells in front of thighs. Bend over at hips slightly with knees bent.

With elbows slightly bent, raise upper arms to sides until elbows are shoulder height. Maintain elbows' height above or equal to wrists. Lower and repeat.

These are arnolds. You'll be able to use probably about double what you use for the laterals for the arnolds:

Grasp dumbbells; palms facing body, elbows flexed.

Raise dumbbells by extending elbows; abduct and internally rotate shoulders to straight arm position. Lower to original position and repeat.

Sunday: Rest Day

Monday:

Pull towards abdomen - 15~40#s
Pull down - 15~40#s
Leg Extension - 15~20#s

Treadmill: 1.94 miles

I did 45 slower minutes on the treadmill today. I know that doing my weights before the treadmill is the best way but it sure is kicking my ass. It makes it harder for me to do the full hour on the treadmill that I like to do. I was thinking about switching and doing weights one day and treadmill the next day. Or maybe I should just be patient. I am not sure. I am planning my first 7 mile hike in the wilderness area Wednesday morning. I am really excited about it! I have done 5.5 mile hikes but this will be the first 7 mile.

Rough time around my house. I wrote in my journal so I won't repeat it all. But I am pleased to say that my first impulse is always to eat as much as possible when things are rough but now I am proud to say that I think "movement" instead of "crazy eating". It helps reduce my stress and keeps me healthy for the energy I need. This WOL has changed my life in a wonderful way.

Thursday:

I went over to the apartment complex pool and swam for awhile and then sat in the sun. I am not sure it was really exercise as I am not a great swimmer but it sure felt good and beat sitting on the couch .

Friday:

I did it! I did the 7-mile hike through Sable Point Wildlife Sanctuary! I wrote more about it in my journal but suffice to say that I am very happy with how much my physical endurance has improved thanks to low-carbing and exercise. Just six months ago, I could never have made this hike especially in the heat and humidity. It was fairly easy for me to do so I will be gradually adding longer hikes during this next year! It was wonderful and made all that treadmilling and weights SO worth the effort. As the weather cools, I will be doing more outside activities and fewer gym activities. But nothing beats work in the gym in the Florida heat. Thanks for all your support and encouragement!

Orchid...

Wow! What a great week! Sorry things weren't so great at home on Wednesday, but congrats on not turning to food, but activity instead!

Great job on the hike too! Yay you!

Saturday: Rest Day

Sunday: Rest Day

Monday:

Treadmill - 1.39 miles

I took it easy for a couple of days because my left knee was kind of sore and weird after the 7-mile hike but seems to be fine now. Next year about this time, when I am feeling more self confident) I hope to join a real gym where I can work out on the weights and equipment. Tonight, there was about 10 teenage boys in there using the weights and cardio equipment. I guess they weren't doing anything wrong, just banging the weights a lot and turning the machines on full speed........ I get tired of the fitness center not being "manned". But then, I am an old fuddy duddy compared to them.
