Default New to this and a bit apprehensive

Hi all, My name is Becky and I've done WW points since 2009. I weighed 206 then and lost weight well on that plan counting points. Got to goal in Nov 2010. Since then I've been back and forth 7-10 lb mostly but this last couple years I've gained 12 lb that I CAN NOT budge. I am eating basically the same, but maybe its my age. I turned 60 this past summer. Maybe its eating the same things for years. I eat a lot of carbs, a lot of fruit which I LOVE, very low fat, potatoes almost every day with my husband. My joints are killing me, I'm brain dead. I am so tired of tracking my points with Nothing to show for it. It is frustrating when for years it worked so well. Anyway, I'm willing to try. But it is very scary to me to think that fruit is off the plate. That potatoes are off, that almost everything that I used to eat daily is gone. It is a big huge change. I hope I can make the change, my daily menu was so easy to track from all these years. I have hope now that something may work to get me back to my goal weight though. I'd given up and if my joints and brain work better, thats a huge plus.

Welcome Becky,

I have only been doing low carbs since Feb of this year so I will let the veterans fill you in on all of the in's and out's of LC but I can tell you that since I have been doing this, by that I mean less than 20 carbs per day with no fruit and no potatoes and no pasta, I feel so much better and have lost 25lbs (but I have about 80lbs to lose).

So welcome again and good luck. YOU can do this, please give yourself some time to adjust. There are a lot of good foods out there to enjoy and probably a lot that you have been missing out on during WW.

Kathy

Thanks kathy. I worry most about no potato and no fruit! Both of which have been staples evry day.

Welcome Becky,
But you haven't mentioned all the good things you can now eat on Atkins that were not allowed on WW! Potatoes now have been hybridized to be nothing but a tasteless starch/sugar bomb...look at it as a big 'ole lump of sugar on your plate. Have you found all the great substitute recipes...mashed cauliflower aka fauxtatoes? Cabbage or broccoli as a side, various vegetable gratins, etc. check out all the recipes below or here: https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/recipes/side-dishes I like the taste of cauliflower "potato salad" better than the original. As for fruit...maybe keep the lowest sugar berries and have small amounts as a special treat. SF Fruit jellos? Try fruit extracts to flavor cream? Look around the forum...you will find many ideas and recipes to help. All the best,
