Default stretching?

is stretching really important before aerobic exercize? because i don't. i read in some book that u don't need to stretch to walk- to just start out slow and work yourself up til you're at your THR. and that starting slow is enough to warm your muscles that u dont need to stretch. this has been what i've been doing- and it works- stretching actually makes my legs weaker.

so, because i guess i'm going to start "weight training" (thanks to all of you, of course) i need to think more about stretching? granted im going to start small with some bands and some arm&leg weights when i walk, but am i going to be putting myself at risk if i don't stretch? would the same theory apply to anerobic exercize that it does to walking? take curls for instance, if u start with a few reps or less resistance (or weight) and work your way up to more resistance (or weight) would that be sufficient?

i actually read one book that said stretching is bad for u... i don't remember why... over-extending maybe?

also, if i wear my leg weights for hours a day- like say at work, would that be bad for me? i have a desk job, so, its not like i walk all day or anything, but for when i do (ie. up & down the stairs to the potty or water cooler) i thought that might be beneficial. and i could discreetly do some leg exercizes uner my desk too. hehe.

thanks as always for your support
