Why do you even need to cheat? Dr. Atkins did not want people using his diet to cheat and IMO it gets you nowhere fast (and I know this from experience).

Because this is not on a regular basis.
I'm only going to have this burger once in my life.

Lets say for example you have a friend and lets say they baked a perfect cake. It is their masterpiece. The culmination of their life's work. Are you telling me you are so up tight that you will not even have a piece?

I'm not uptight but if my friend was a true friend then that friend would know that I cannot ingest gluten (I am celiac and it was being on Atkins that led me to this discovery) and would not even expect me to have a slice of thier cake, no matter how good it is. They would already know that it would make me very ill.

BTW I am originally from Toronto and I know that the CNE comes back every summer. Are you going to have the same burger next year if it shows up at the CNE again or will you stick to that once-in-a-lifetime plan?

Well getting sick and just going off the diet for a one time event are two very different things. If you're going off the diet for something, make it worth while.

Last year the CNE had the deep fried butter, this year that insane burger, I'm sure next year they'll have something else.
So no I will not have this burger next year because there is something more crazy waiting for next year.

Its one of those things where you know better than not to do it
but you just say the hell with it and throw all better judgement out the window.

And deal with the return of cravings afterwards, eh?

I was at No-Frills today and I had to walk by the bread/pastry section to get to the meats sections from the produce section. Took a whiff I started salivating. Sometimes its just pure will power. When those food are out of the way, I wont miss it, but if its in front of me, I'll want some. Simple solution, I have none of those food in the house.

I just think about some of my fav high carb foods and I want them....like sushi or ice cream. I keep them out of the house too and luckily (for me) my son does not bring them in the house. He eats high carb foods I won't touch but when he was cooking his mini pizzas today they smelled pretty good.

I heard that last year. I thought that sounded pretty gross.

I moved out of TO back in 1994 so I have not been to the CNE in years. I think the last time I went was in 1981 with my younger sister and our mom.

Dude, I'd be right there with you in line for one of those. Enjoy your cheat and best of luck with any carb hangover you may (or may not) have! Just because others think it's gross, wouldn't cheat if a gun were held to their head, have insane post-cheat cravings, or feel badly after a cheat day doesn't mean you will. Goodness, after reading all these things so many people said about the first couple of days after a cheat day, I expected to need to be hospitalized in some kind of post-cheat psychosis. Didn't happen for me and it may not for you.

I had a planned cheat for my anniversary too (pasta dinner and ice cream) and lost 1.5 pounds the next morning! It is called a refeed and body builders use it to spur weightloss after strict dieting. It can work wonders but do not continue carbing it up the next day too or you will start to gain (water and weight). I think you need to find what works for you to maintain a lifestyle of low carb eating. For me that will include the occasional refeed.
