Question Champagne - Zero carbs ??

I wonder if someone could tell me if Champagne contains zero carbs? I am aware that vodka and whiskey are but a friend of mine who has just started the Atkins diet has bought a carb counter. In this carb counter is a page which shows you everything that is 'zero' carbs and champagne is a the top of the list of beverages! But I have heard conflicting opinions. I even wrote to the atkins customer service centre and they said they 'weren't sure' hmmmmmmm

Can ANYONE shed any light on this matter ?!!

Thanks heaps,
Kags

Default It took some searching......

but I found it. This page has a whole slew of alcoholic beverages listed. This is the info for champagne:

Champagne (4 oz) 11.89g alcohol; 3.6g carbs; 2g fat; 98 calories

Be aware that your body will first choose alcohol to burn, then carbs, then your own fat. Drinking alcohol does slow progress for some people.

What? This fat content is like a milkshake or something! I'm surprised there's any fat in champagne at all, but if there's any it's got to be .2g, not 2.

Default not fat!!

I double-checked the site .... great link BTW Nat, I've bookmarked it for reference

It's a diabetic reference, and it lists various alcoholic beverages ... with nutrient values, and DIABETIC EXCHANGE values. Champagne is to be counted as 2 fat exchanges in a diabetic diet plan; it does not actually have 2g fat in it.

Worth noting that 12 oz Beer is - 13g alcohol, 13.7g carbs, 151 calories, and counts as 1 bread + 2 fat exchanges
