Default Very serious question, please help.

Today, I had something bad happen to me. Something similar happened to me like this before. It only seems to happen when I take a shower or a bath. Usually on my period *it has happened when I am not on it, only once though*

At first I thought it was caused by me not eating and my blood pressure being low or my sugar being low. But it happened the one time while I was eating normally, like just Atkins, good stuff, either way. But I was wrong. Ok, here is a break down of what happened today.

I took a bath. My body started to feel tingly all over. First my arms though. I thought it was just because of the hot water. That normally happens, the tingles, right? Then my vision started getting weird flashes of light. I thought "No this is happening again." This is though, it was really different. Usually, what happens, that didn't this time is I get terrible pains, dizziness, blackouts, vision blurred, vertigo, vomiting, trouble breathing, shakes. All sorts of neat things that everyone should suffer. Usually I just want to die when this happens. But today:

Tingly, numbness, my muscles seized, I couldn't open my fingers, my thumbs were locked under my palms and there was no way I was going to get them pried apart. Then I wanted to call out to my boyfriend for him to help me but I couldn't talk. But he knew to come in and he did, for some reason. He asked me how I was doing, but he knew there was something wrong when there was no water in the tub and I was just sitting there with a towel drapped over me and I didn't respond. Then I tried talking. You know how I deaf person sounds when they try to talk? That is how I sounded. My facial muscles were even paralzyed. It was terrible. I hated having to have him see me in such a terrible state. He took care of me very well though. He was really supportive. It eventually went away when my skin was more exposed to the cooler air and he helped by rubbing my hands. I love him so much for taking care of me.

Does anyone know what this might be? Am I lacking vitamins, or what could this be?

Yeah I hadn't had anything to eat. But I wasn't feeling hungry for a few days. Sometimes I either have a huge appetite or I have none. The last thing I was thinking about was food. It's happened before even when I did eat. So I really wonder.

I don't have a doctor all of my own right now in this town because I just moved here so I gotta check my options.

You might have had some kind of seizure - this happened to me once about 10 years ago, after I'd lost a lot of weight. They (the doctors) called it an ideopathic seizure, had no idea why it happened, and apparantly there was nothing terribly wrong, although one of the doctors mentioned it might have been low-blood-sugar-related.

I had something like this, and saw a doc. In addition to a seizure, the doc needs to rule out Multiple Sclerosis (with an MRI), migraines, stroke, or some kind of generalized anxiety response. Was it bilateral, involving both sides of your body, or just one side? Just curious. Please see a doc asap.

Are you on The Pill? My sister had these symptoms when she was on it and the doctor said she'd had a mild stroke and, of course, took her off it immediately.

Also, I agree with LaDean that your weight seems low. Are you bulimic or a restricter? Are you taking an antidepressant, specifically Wellbutrin, which can cause seizures in people who have a history of eating disorders or bulimia? I don't mean to pry or be an alarmist, but this episode doesn't sound like something for which you want to delay seeking medical treatment. Good luck.

PS Sometimes when my husband does low carb, it effects his vision. Once he ups his carbs it goes away. Some people are more sensitive to things than others. Everyone is different.

I also recommend a visit to a medical professional, but I think that nothing will be diagnosed.

Even if you are not hungry, you must keep fueling your body. Snack on nuts or something else nutritious throughout the day.

Ayustar,

London has excellent medical facilities. What you really need is a complete neorological work up.

I would recommend that you go to University Hospital through emerge... part of the campus at Western... and get yourself into the hands of a specialist.

I am not tyrying to suggest you have a serious condition... but you need the entire work up, and that is best done through UH.

I do not think your issue is food related. I would not waste time trying to find a GP, who will only have to refer you anyway.

You will find the people at UH very accomodating... and they will take care of you very well.

Good luck... but I wouldn't hesitate or wait any longer.

John

I think it is from not eating enough.

Being healthy means eating right, not just being thin.

My daughter had "spells" when she was really thin also. Not the muscle paralying though. That sounds as if some chem is too low and I don't want to scare you, but your heart is a muscle too, you know. But then at a later time, I found she was eating only once a day, if at all and that is why she was so thin. She looked sick and gaunt too. She was also having terrible panic attacks.

Eat every day, more than once a day and get at least 1,000 a day. But also make a point to go to the doctor. And get some vitamins if you are not already taking them. At least you may have that covered, but I don't really know if that will help if you're not eating. A lot of them need food to be absorbed correctly.

Please take care of yourself. Being thin is not worth risking your health! I didn't see what low carb plan you are on, but maybe you should try keeping a bottle of gatorade in the house when you have a spell and see if getting your electrolytes balanced helps.

I know this plan makes you lose your appetite, but that is why it is important for you to make a plan to eat and then do so!

It could be a lot of things. At 4'10" you are within a normal weight range for your height, so I wouldn't just attribute it to being thin.

One thing it could be that no one has mentioned, and that can be serious, is a transient stroke.

Regardless, this is not something you want to fool around with. You need to see a doctor and you probably should have gone to the emergency room immediately after it happened. Since you are in Canada, you must have health insurance. Get yourself to a doctor!
