I have never heard to never try to conceive while low carbing. IMHO, that doesn't make sense. Low carbing helps to regulate menstrual cycles so it makes sense to me that that is the best time to conceive. Also some women become diabetic while pregnant ( gestational diabetes )... what better reason to low carb.

Just saw this poll and wanted to respond. I've had irregular menses since starting many years ago. I usually have to take medication to even see AF. Since starting LC I've been having a visit from AF every month except one. I started 5/04, and I've only missed 9/04.

The first few months it was messed up and then it got back to normal - I've always had a 28-day cycle, hardly any pms/cramping/etc. and it lasted 3 days - other than when I was pregnant with my 3 sons, of course. BUT, the last 3 months it's been really weird and it's funny that I've come across this thread because I'm at the start of my 3rd "weird" TOM. What happens is that it starts out really, really slow (almost non-existent) for 2, 3 or 4 days and then all of a sudden it's here and lasts the usual 3 days.... I get to the point where I'm so frustrated - will ya just come on and get it over with I had a tubal ligation almost 7 years ago so pregnancy isn't an issue. I'm thinking I'll be discussing this with my dr. when I go for my physical next month (always go for my birthday ).

For years I had no cycle. It's a weight issue for me. A little over 200 and no cycle. Drop under - by a pound and here she comes. it was not great incentive to lose! But now I am a 28 day - set your clock kind of gal.

I just came to the forum with a startled revelation and then saw this topic. I get the WORST cramps (like, of the do-I-have endometriosis?) kind. I started Atkins only four days ago (Friday) and I got my period around fifteen hours ago, and for the FIRST time in my life, I am not having cramps, just tiny ignorable twinges. My God, could the two -- LC and no cramps -- be related? Oh please please please let it be so. If so, that would be the biggest motivation possible to stay on the LC plan forever!

Glad I came to this thread. I seem to have a much heavier than usual flow during my actual period. So much so that I was worried I need to see a doctor. Have been doing this WOE for about 8 months now and it is heavy every month plus lots of spotting off and on. I would say out of a 30 day month I have at least 7 days of a period with 3-4 of those really heavy and an additional 7 or so days of spotting. I am losing pretty good so maybe that is it? I also was fitted with an IUD about the time I started eating this way so really dont know which it is. Like you, Nicole I will mention it to the doc when I go for check up this spring.
