Could someone tell me what ZIOH is? Did you find the book "Good Calories Bad Calories" helpful to this ZC WOE? Is it really helpful to the ZC WOE to be caffeine free? I can't seem to kick my two cup a day habit.

Thanks
JoAnn

Thanks Margot

Are you all caffeine free? Is it an important step to take to maintain the ZC WOE?

The 10 conclusions in the summary section of Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes

"1. Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease, or any other chronic disease of civilization.

2.The problem is the carbohydrates in the diet, their effect on insulin secretion, and thus the hormonal regulation of homeostasis – the entire harmonic ensemble of the human body. The more easily digestible and refined the carbohydrates, the greater the effect on our health, weight and well being.

3. Sugars – sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup specifically – are particularly harmful, probably because the combination of fructose and glucose simultaneously elevates insulin levels while overloading the liver with carbohydrates.

4. Through their direct effect on insulin and blood sugar, refined carbohydrates, starches, and sugars are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease and diabetes, They are most likely dietary causes of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and the other chronic diseases of civilization.

5. Obesity is a disorder of excess fat accumulation, not overeating, and not sedentary behavior.

6. Consuming excess calories does not CAUSE us to grow fatter, any more than it causes a child to grow taller. Expending more energy than we consume does not lead to long-term weight loss; it leads to hunger.

7. Fattening and obesity are caused by an imbalance-a disequilibrium-in the hormonal regulation of adipose tissue and fat metabolism. Fat synthesis and storage exceeds the mobilization of fat from the adipose tissue and its subsequent oxidation. We become leaner when the hormonal regulation of fat tissues reverses this balance.

8. Insulin is the primary regulator of fat storage. When insulin levels are elevated- either chronically or after a meal- we accumulate fat in our fat tissue. When insulin levels fall, we release fat from our fat tissue and use it as fuel.

9. By stimulating insulin secretion, carbohydrates make us fat and ultimately cause obesity. The fewer carbohydrates we consume, the leaner we will be.

10. By driving fat accumulation, carbohydrates also increase hunger and decrease the amount of energy we expend in metabolism and physical activity."

here is a good link for good reading resources for this way of eating... check out the forum, too!

I drank coffe for years and it never cause me any issues. Now, I drank one cup in the morning and would always feel hungry aout 15 minutes later, but it was not real hunger. Just my insulin rising from the cream and equal in the coffee, so I learned to ignore that. I finally gave up coffee last May and still miss it from time to time, but it has had no effect on my weight or mood.
I do enjoy the freedom from my coffee addiction though.

I love cheese, and thus far is has not bothered me. I eat eggs if they are fried in bacon grease--that is the only way I like them now. Tonight I am really looking forward to dinner, we bought some steaks to grill tonight. Dh is having mac and cheese with his, honestly that is one food that even before any sort of LC eating I just couldn't stand..just terrible.

Can I just add that in the UK, GCBC is renamed The Diet Delusion. I was confused when first trying to buy it. I wish it was compulsory reading in schools but the junk food lobby would never allow it.

Thumbs up

For those who have successfully lost quite a few pounds with ZC but do not exercise, what has happened to the excess skin that usually results from weightloss?

Does it shrink, too? (hope hope)

Thanks for sharing!

Just found this video on youtube. I think everyone should watch it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chXCvduiAbs&feature=sub

It explains primarily fructose's role in the diseases of civilization (obesity, type II diabetes, heart disease, etc etc)

Thank you BigBenny, the rapid delivery & American accent ( wish it had subtitles ) threw me a little but it is very good. So too is 'Sugar -The bitter truth'.

Hi everyone...
Right....as soon as I've used up this last bit of organic brocolli ( I hate waste) I'm with you. The carbs have been creeping up on me, and I know, from past experience, that zero carb ( or near as dammit) is the easiest way for me to get back on track.
