Default "good food binges"???anyone?

I binge on "good food".

Help me!!!

Once, I'm aware of good and bad food, I still binge (usually friday or saturday night) - only now on the good stuff - vegetables, nuts or seeds, low-fat cheese.

Sometimes I buy bigger amounts of that stuff, because I'm afraid of the binge attacs, I convince myself that eating low-carb food will do less harm , than grabing anything else.

I guess I can say that I plan those "good food binges".
For example I'm thinking of buying a 0,5lb pack of shelled pumpkin seeds and watching a movie on friday night.

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH IT?

I'm absolutely aware that any binge is WRONG, just wandering do any of you here experience something similar.
Greta

Hi.

For one, it depends on your definition of "binge". To me, that means deliberately eating rapidly and mindlessly, way beyond the point of fullness. Snacking on pumpkin seeds somewhat mindlessly while watching a movie... eh, I don't know.

Eating low carb food does do less harm.

Could it be just plain hunger? Are you eating plenty of calories for your size, comprised of good, clean food? You're taller than me, 5'9", but only 122 lbs. If I was 122 lbs, my body would be screaming for a binge, too.

Dear Kristine,
It's the worst habit. I used to binge on unhealthy snacks - I ate huge amounts of chocolate, cookies and all kind of stuff - everything around me.
Its habitual - I learned to eat heathy, but I haven't given up THE BINGE - NOT THINKING thing.

As about me I eat a lot (1500-2000 calories per day when bingeing up to 3000-4000); I'm tall, but I'm tiny. Today I'm back to myself - it has been 8 horrible years of dieting until I found out the low-carb way. Happy as never , but scared not to loose it as well.

I guess my scream for help must have been about BINGING on the whole - can't get rid of it.

I'm far from an expert on the subject. As far as the planning part goes, the first step is DON'T BUY IT! I don't keep most of my binge foods in the house 'cause I know I can't resist eating the whole thing.

That said, I can go off and binge on meat or veggies. To combat the meat binging, I keep most of it individually frozen, that way if I want something I have to thaw and cook it first. I make sure I only take out one piece at a time, thaw, cook and eat it. That tends to interrupt the behavior and give me a chance to switch focus to something other than eating.

Or I can binge on veggies, but I don't see that as too harmful. It would take 8 cups of broccoli to make 23 net carbs, and even in a bingeing mood I don't think I can eat that much broccoli, but even if I do I don't think there's any harm done.

Why not find something to do on a Friday night other than sit and watch a movie?

Hi.. I used to eat popcorn while watching movies. Now I eat sunflower seeds (in the shell).. I figure the work it takes me to get them OUT of the shell outweighs any issues with binging.. heck it's HARD to binge if you have to take them out of the shell.

I understand the behavior.. it's still there in me, in fact sometimes it's worse than before I started a diet... but they're a lot easier to control when I'm doing LC because the cravings are all MENTAL.. NOT physical after the first 3 days!!

Good luck.. you CAN do it!! WOOHOO!!

Mike
