Default 'Atkins-type diets win approval in two scientific studies'

Headline in my local paper the Press and Journal today. They are both American studies. The trialists on the low carb diet lost more body fat and their good choleserol went up higher than those on the low fat diet. Their only concern would be the long term safety effect and that more research needs to be done on this side of things.

Maybe now more people in the medical profession and elsewhere will acknowledge the benefits of this wol and we might get a better press and more choice on the shop shelves.

Someone at work said they heard this on the radio. Didn't see anything in the main Atkins forum about it, might check the media forum.

From a personal point of view I found no adequate evidence to suggest that a low carb diet was harmful in the short term and the research of long term consequences (if any) had not been done yet.

I decided that there were more proven risks to my health by being overweight (e.g type 2 diabetes) than going on an effective diet and nutritional plan to minimise thr risk of diabetes.

The obese youngsters growing up on junk food are IMHO at far, far greater risk than us low carbers.

Hell yes ... many commentators seem to suggest that a known mass killer is way more preferrable to a finger in the air 'what-if' ?!? e.g. A report on the beeb stated that 29% of GP's sampled preferred their patients to remain obese rather than switch them to Atkins. IMO that directly contravenes the hippocratic oath.

Those dissenting voices totally lacking in scientific, clinical or even anecdotal evidence do not merit 50% of the debate.
