I can tell you without a doubt, it's that older people are younger because they are active.
When I had a back injury at 58, I couldn't really exercise. For almost 4 years, I stuck to a few PT stretches, light core exercises, and some light walking. I went for periods of time not even doing that. I felt like I had one foot in the grave...even after I recovered, it was hard to climb stairs, move anything; even doing laundry was so tiring. It was hard to run errands (getting in and out of the car, pushing a grocery cart, etc.) Taking a shower used all the energy I had some days. I felt like my former self was not recoverable.
After my back mostly healed, it took me about 3 months to try to start walking again. I just didn't want to chance the pain. I finally tried, and discovered that a 10 minute walk didn't hurt. Then 15. Well..the day before yesterday, at age 62, I did a 5k walk. Such a HUGE, HUGE improvement! I still have pain with sitting or standing too long. As a matter of fact, I had pain on the walk that caused me to stop briefly a couple of times, then continue at a slower pace. Since building up walking, I have noticed that I no longer get exhausted running errands. I walk faster, climb stairs easily. I stand up straighter. I do feel younger.
Don't allow the thought that maybe it's because you are old on the inside, you can't get back to that younger, healthier, life.
