High recommendations for Cameron's Seafood.

This place is very LC friendly. Last night I had a swordfish kabob and steamed veggies with melted butter and cole slaw (I couldn't taste any sugar in the cole slaw at all).

Their prices are reasonable, except for soft drinks. $3 for a diet coke: come on!

I've been there many times, and never had a bad meal.

Does anyone know of restaurants in SoCal that offer organic meats, produce, dairy? Thank you for your help.

Default Restaurant 2117

In celebration of his birthday, a friend of mine and I had dinner at Restaurant 2117 last night. They have a very nice menu of small plates, appetizers, entrees, pasta dishes, and prix fixe menus.

We had a series of small plates:

Mixed green salad, with julienne pears, slices of brie, toasted walnuts, "crisp corn" (which I though was raw corn kernals, but turned out to be chopped up corn fritter, which I pushed to the side of my plate), cherry tomatoes, and a citrus vinaigrette. Very tasty.

Second small plate was duck confit, one leg, served without the skin, with a relish of finely minced onion, parsley and I don't know what. Delicious.

Next course we split was two sweetbreads, which were dredged in something (flour?) and sauteed, served with a port wine reduction.

We then split an entree of 1/2 filet of branzino (fish) served with sauteed spinach and garnished with cooked crab.

We shared a liter of Pellegrino amended with slices of lemon.

My dining partner finished with "tiramisu" (which did not have any alcohol-soaked ladyfingers). It was a few cubes of flourless chocolate cake topped with an assortment of mixed berries and vanilla custard. I was full at this point and did not have any of this.

The bill for this wondrous assortment of delicacies, including tax and tip, was about $90.

I highly recommend this restaurant.

I haven't tried this yet; at the Marina. Mostly Italian. They've got Niman ranch burgers though!

This place has grass fed beef and Kobe beef, but I don't know how much else is organic. Hollywood.

I'm a Valley Girl .. born and raised. But nowadays I'm in Florida. Wish I could move back to SoCal. I miss it! I visit a couple of times per year though and I'm noting those restaurants listed above.

Default John O'Groats

My omelette at John O'Groats was substandard. I had the Latino Heat omelette, which had cheddar, jalapenos, and lots of turkey sausage that was cooked into hard little cubes. The egg was more like a crepe, not fluffy like an omelette should be. This was served with a side dish of avocado, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The avocado served included some bruised fruit; the tomatoes instead of potatoes were not ripe, and the server gave me toast even though I told her to "hold the toast". (Although I must admit, it is the first time I've been in a restaurant where the toast was perfectly toasted. It was very good bread, with nice texture and seeds. And served with real butter. Okay, I ate half a slice.) You may think I'm being picky, but I feel entitled, considering the omelette was about $13 before tax and tip.

Perhaps the cook just had a bad day. The menu looks so good, I'd be willing to try it again. I should have ordered the smoked pork chop with eggs. And it is carb heaven for your carb eating friends (oh the pancakes and waffles available look heavenly).

Default Barney's Beanery

Had breakfast at Barney's in Pasadena yesterday. I had a feeling they'd be open, even on Thanksgiving day. You can get any kind of omelette at Barney's- even one with tuna salad. Plus they let you choose from something like 10 different "sides" to go with your breakfast, including salad or sauteed veggies.

They boast about their chili, which is pretty good, and you can get it without beans.

They're open 7AM to 2AM. Anytime's the right time for Barney's (unless you habitually eat in the very early morning).

Re: Barneys Beanery

Wow! If we had that restaurant there, I'd be there every week! Next time I'm in SoCal (Simi Valley area) I'll have to check out the one in Pasadena or Santa Monica.

yeah, it is a fun place! The WeHo location is a good place to go if you're planning on going to the Sunset Strip anyway.

O'Groats has GREAT oatmeal, for anyone that includes that in their diet. Other than that, meh. I had a business breakfast there a while back and had the same experience, basically.

Barney's is awesome.

We had a big Indian feast the other night, and a great majority of it was pretty lowish carb--paneer (cheese and spinach), lentils (dal) are the fibrous legumes, awesome spicy cauliflower oniony dish (cant spell it), and chicken tikka. Skipped the rice and samosas, small piece of naan (I know), fruit and tea for dessert.

That said, there isn't a lot of great Indian in my 'hood. But its okay.
