Oddly enough, we also eat stinging nettle and lamb's quarters. These are both considered weeds here. They are totally edible and in fact VERY good for you. You boil them like spinach. Yum..
None of that icky aftertaste weird mouth thing that you get from spinach...
I'm not sure if bracken is the same as the ostrich fern though... you'd have to check on that before you ate them !

I have eaten nettle soup once and it was tasty. Lots of hedgerow plants do seem to be edible, but I suppose as with fungi you really have to know what you are looking for.
