Default Just bought my 1st low carb magazine

Hi,

I've just been to Morrisons and I've bought a copy of Low Carb Energy magazine £2.50.

I don't know if anyone else has looked throught it, their are alot of adverts for the low carb products, and a bit about eating out at certain places how to deal with the menu, a beauty section, exerise section, low carb book review, vegetarian bit, 50 recipes, hints and tips. They also advertise a Low Carb Energy Recipe hand book.

I think it's worth a read it's 115 pages long so it might take some time, but that will stop us snacking.

We had a thread about this a few weeks ago:
http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=196362

However, would be interested to know which edition you bought - I've not seen a new edition since the August one - and would have thought the September edition would be available by now.

I'd second that Demi, I was in WH Smith at the weekend looking for the next issue but there was nothing on the shelf, even the August one had gone.

I phoned up to subscribe to the magazine today, the next issue is due in 2 weeks time, it's bi-monthly and £11 for a year which is a saving on the £2.50 cover price and will save me the trek to Morrisons to look for it

Hi uskhi,

Could you let me know the phone number for subscribing please?

I haven't found the mag anywhere yet, and I cant find a website or anything.

Do they mention a website anywhere in the mag?

Thanks

Kate (",)

I haven't seen it either. Which section is it in? With the slimming mags (WW et al) or elsewhere?

Went out shopping this afternoon and tried 4 shops for it - including Morrisons & WH Smiths. No Joy! Is it only available in certain parts of the country? I'm in Birmingham.

The number for subscriptions is 01376 534541 it only seems to be manned occasionally I tried for a week and got through one afternoon last week. Maybe the first edition has sold out and Morrisons and WH Smiths are awaiting the next one, it was probably a limited print run for the first UK edition. I found an American web site for the magazine http://www.sheknows.com/lowcarb/
but no English one is mentioned.

Just thought I'd let everyone know. The new edition (number 2) for September / October is out. Picked it up at the local newsagent. Looks better than the first one. Still a bit American but already has a much more UK feel to it.

In case anyone else has been having a problem, if you leave a message on the answer phone, they tend to ring you back fairly quickly.

Okay idiot alert here - be prepared for a stupid male question!

In the recipe sections of this low carb magazine, or any low carb magazine for that matter, when they talk about using "cream cheese" what is it they're actually on about? Is it Fromage Frais?

Like I said, I know I'm an idiot but anyone who could shed the light for me would garner my undying affection and appreciation!

Thanks.

When they talk about "cream cheese" in recipes, they're usually talking about Philadelphia cream cheese. Mascarpone could also be used as well, as it's the same sort of consistency (though it has a sweeter taste) but fromage frais would not be considered 'solid' enough to be used instead of cream cheese.

Hope that helps

I still haven't seen it anywhere! And I keep looking! I'm in Birmingham - has anyone any idea which shops might stock it?

Sainsburys most definitely stock it - that's where I get mine from!

And thanks for the help Demi!

Never would have thought they meant that!!!
