Default do french fries have place in low carb?

hello!

In Google search, potatoes are shown to have carbs 17g/100g and french fries 40g/100g!

why is that?

Also, do you think that french fries can be consumed in a low carb / keto diet and at which amount?

thanks!

Potatoes contain water that evaporates during frying, so french fries are left with a higher proportion of carbs after cooking.

For many of us, one fry is too many and leads to hunger and possibly binging. Limiting yourself to less than 10g of carbs at one meal or snack is a good place to start. If you can eat 25g of french fries and feel satisfied with no other carbs for the next 3-4 hrs, you might be OK with them. If they trigger hunger or cravings for more starch or sugar, it would be better to avoid them or only have a fry off someone else's plate very rarely (I can do this now, but could not limit myself when I first started low-carbing).

I find I can eat potatoes and not get extra hungry BUT they always make me gain weight. I have mostly avoided them but I did eat them for awhile after developing some difficult food allergies that severely restricted my diet (because they were cheap, available and I could tolerate them and feel fine). I gave them up after expanding my repertoire and don't miss them. I feel fine when I eat them, just get heftier.

I'm reading the new book Always Hungry? by David Ludwig and he asks on page 73:
Which of the following raises blood glucose and insulin the most after consumption, calorie for calorie?
1. white potato (baked)
2. ice cream
3. pure table sugar

The science behind why LC eating works isn't always easy to understand, and I find the book is helping me get a better grasp. This helps me make better food choices.

The answer is in my next post.

More restaurants would be lovely, and there will presumably be more eventually. In the meantime, cooking your own meals remains the only way to be sure of your food. I already loved cooking before this, so I'm happy! There are probably quite a few fried jicama recipes around the net, and more LC recipes than you can shake a stick at.

I haven't had a French fry in ages. But when we eat from Smashburger (me with a lettuce bun, of course), I will eat three of Husband's sweet potato fries.

Then I eat my burger. By the time I'm done, the fries are cold, and no longer appetizing. It's odd, isn't it, that if we keep eating them as they're getting cold, we don't notice that they're not that tasty anymore.

But stop for a bit, and it's, "YUCK. No thanks!"

Anybody tried just deep frying some baby carrots? Not as low carb as jicama, but we're only talking a couple extra grams of carb per 100 grams.

I've deep fried turnip Teaser! It's pretty good! But the flavour intensified quite a bit

Think about how "potatoey" french fries are. Make sure you REALLY like the veggie you are deep frying. LOL
