Default Shirataki Noodles

Has anyone had any experience with shirataki noodles? Supposedly they have no carbs, and all fiber. I'm curious as to the taste. I've searched the internet and found mixed reviews on them. Are they easy to cook? It says you boil them but then have to thoroughly dry them?

You may have to try them to decide. I adore them, but then I am looking for the 'chew' of pasta or rice, not flavor. I use a particular brand - Miracle Noodles which do not need refrigeration, and have no soy, as some brands do.
You MUST drain them (and DO NOT GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO SMELL THE LIQUID THEY WERE PACKAGED IN!!), rinse well, then heat in a bit of water, discard that water and then use as you wish. I love miracle noodles in the rice, fettuccini versions as well as a new ziti version (which does have a few calories and slight bit of carbs).

I use them with a bit of protein and veggies to make kind of a soup - for breakfast or lunch. I also use them with butter and curry powder as a side dish for my dinner.

I also use Miracle Noodles and see them as its own side vs a sub' to pasta. I follow the instructions then toss it in the pan with my protein to soak up the flavors.
I order mine from Amazon.

they're pretty good. rinse them before cooking. you can find them at K&S World Market on either Charlotte Pike or Nolensville Road.. about $1.69-1.99 a bag.

Rinse, rinse, rinse.

I just rinse them thoroughly, and then rinse them again, under the hottest water the tap will produce and then use them.

I would suggest using them in Asian recipes where noodles are called for. In other words, use them in place of rice noodles, bean thread noodles, etc., but don't expect them to become Italian pasta. That doesn't work.

Also look for kelp noodles. They don't have the bouncy texture of shiratake, or the foul odor. Shiratake are okay but kelp noodles are a little better.

Thanks everyone.

PilotGal....do you think they are sold at all World Market stores? I may stop on my way home tonight. I'm very curious to try them.

Bike2Work I'll also look for the kelp noodles as well.

Again - thanks so much everyone for your input and advice!

Thank you for the mention of kelp noodles. I'd not heard of them..have a batch on their way to try (I love amazon prime!!). I figure if I love shirataki, I'll like these as well.

I bought some from Amazon. I could get past the smell but not the texture. Not for me.
