Default Bingeing

I have baked flax crackers twice since I began my diet in January of this year. Both times I "lost it" and ate until none were left.

I haven't had an Atkins bar for months, but when I first started my diet I tried them. Every time it caused a major binge.

In the early weeks of dieting, pork skins caused binging, but now I can eat just one and walk away.

I always come close to "losing it" with Linda's deep dish pizza, so I make sure that I have enough calories to "spend" when I make it.

Surprisingly, I don't binge on sweet things such a Buttoni's coconut cake. I would love to eat the whole thing at one time but I can put some in the freezer for later. I even managed to control myself with her shortbread cookies, which I love. But as a safety precaution, I always cut the recipe in half so there won't be temptation to binge....or if I should binge, there won't be twice as much to polish off.

So it looks like I will never, ever make flax crackers again. Well, maybe I could bake a half recipe.....then I COULDN'T binge on them!

All of the foods listed above are low-carb foods. When I binged, it was not on high-carb JUNK FOOD. I do not allow high carb foods into my house - I do not buy them at all.

Binging is practically non-existant now, thank God, as stress and anxiety over dieting has worn off. I think that bingeing is a panic reaction to dieting, but the panic - and the bingeing - diminish with time. That's why it's so important to keep trying even when you fall off the wagon....eventually it will stick.

Thanks for sharing this pollyanna, its taken me a long time to realize that i can't just have "one bite" of something naughty as it usually leads to me eating way more than i ever should! i'm also the same with alcohol so its really no surprise that i can't control my binging when i start...it was an interesting read and nice to know that i'm not alone thanks for the sharing the supportive words!

IMO its addiction!! Its like anything when you're addicted, have one and off you go!!

I hate when people say to me "go on have one, one wont hurt" when I refuse high carb foods etc. Well one will hurt!!! no one ever says that to someone giving up smoking do they!

Yeah I hate it when people do that to me too. I posted about wanting a glass of wine on facebook the other night and my friend (who is a really good friend and has heard me tell her about what Im doing and why and why cheats are not ok) she says "Oh just have a glass it will help you relax" Even though when we are together and i say i cant have something she always trys to tell me i can if i do it only once in awhile......ummmm no!!!!!

She is very overweight herself and cant lose weight.....i sometimes want to shake her and tell her why she can't get it together......sigh.

You would be surprised at the people I've met who actually thought that smoking 'in moderation' was possible.

I have a ridiculously addictive personality - and all of my vices are triggers for each other! If I drink alcohol, I'll smoke. If I smoke, I'll eat carbs. If I eat carbs, I smoke.

I binge on some lc treats, too. It's really hard, if I have 1 and walk away, I' less likely to binge... but 2? 2 is the path down the rabbit hole.

Me too. I dont drink as I come from a family of alcoholics, I do smoke and cant give up. I have managed to give up sugar and carbs and yes, I get really cross with folk who say to me "go on, one wont hurt" cos I know it will.

yep... 39 days of continuous practice eliminates a bad habit.
it took me many 39 days consecutively, to get rid of my binging habit. and mine came out of boredom.
