Unhappy just started induction...is this correct

Greetings! I just started 'induction' today. this is what i understand from reading book and surfing sites:

any meats, as long as no sugar or nitrates
any eggs
cheese, suggested 3-4 ounces
64 ounces of water
no caffine, sugar, flour, grains, rice, beans, etc. etc.
3 cups of salad veggies, or 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of other approved veggies
other acceptable foods, cream, olives, avocado

my questions:

in induction..you can only have 20 grams of carbs, so, i count everything EXCEPT the meats and eggs for carb count? including the 3 cups of salad or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of other veggie,t then any other carbs i eat that are acceptable.

i guess i am confused here b./c my calculations say that the 3 cups of salad are no where near 20 grams of carbs?????? HELP! so they carbs would come from where...cheese, dressing, cream, splenda????

i am using a ranch dressing with only 1 carb and 1 sugar, is this okay? i counted the carbs today.

i can have cream, unlimited in decaf coffee?

i use spenda, is it correct that one packet = 1 carb gram?

thanks you guys... i really want to be correct on this.

today i ate

ham and cheese scrambled eggs

1 cup of salad at lunch with sprinkle of parmasean cheese, little ranch dressing and canadian bacon slices

kilbesa sausage sliced with 1/4 cup of sliced green pepper and 1/4 cup of sliced red pepper, mushrooms, and 1/4 cup diced onion all sauted. along with 1 cup of salad greens.

PLUS LOTS AND LOTS of water and 1 cup of coffee with cream

does this sound okay

thanks so much

You should count all carbs including eggs. (I think he says all the eggs you want because he doesn't expect anyone to eat more than a dozen eggs in a day.)

I would stay away from the ranch dressing because of the sugar. It may be fine, but on induction I was pretty strict about thatpersonally. I found dressings in the cold section next to the salads that have 1 or 0 carbs and it's not from sugar. Primarily Blue Cheese and a creamy garlic italian was what I found.

Make sure you count the carbs in the cream in your coffee. Also make sure you don't go over the 3 ounce limit. (Dairy products have caused some people to stall on the diet.)

I personally treat the 20 carbs as a maximum, not a minimum. So if I only have 10 carbs that day, it's a bonus.

Your menu for the day sounds fine. I'm not sure what it adds up to with the peppers, etc.. but if your under 20, it sounds great. Double check the sausage as sometimes they have fillers or sugar. I've been looking for a ham that has no carbs, and there's very few. Honey Baked Ham Co.'s ham has 4g a serving. Not sure how it all get's in there.

I'm not sure on the splenda, I don't use sweetners. Sweetners have been said to make some people stall on the diet.

Good luck with it!

Mike

Hi Mike and Jabs....

Lots of us here use FitDay.com to track the food we eat.

Jabs.....If you enter your food into FitDay, you will be surprised at how quickly the carbs add up to 20. Some of the veggies that go into salad have carbs. I wouldn't worry too much about the dressing you are using if it's only 1 carb per serving. You have the 20 carbs to use in a day and they are there for several reasons...one of them being to allow you to eat some food with carbs in it. Just be sensible.

Don't forget...if you are hungry, eat from the allowed foods!

In Dr A's new book he limits you to 3 sweetners a day. So try not to go over that limit.

Jo Ann, I know at one time you were following Atkin's but switched to CALP. The programs are very different in their food limits.

Check your CALP book on limits for certain food sources.

One ounce (U.S. Fluid) is two tablespoons and one tablespoon is three teaspoons.

Default Just started induction...

Hello,
Just had a few questions.
Are we allowed to have CoffeeMate cream with our decaf coffee and equal sugar??
Also, i have been eating diet jello with whip cream while i was on induction, is that a no-no.
I am getting ready to start all over again with my two week induction because so many things have been going on that I have been able to stay with it. Is it ok to start over again?
Maria

Check the carb count on the label. You would probably be safer with heavy cream in your coffee than coffeemate.

Is it listed on your induction list? If not, then it isn't allowed. Checking my copy of the book sugar free jello isn't listed.

If you feel you need to start over to get it right then do so.

Thanks for the input!!
My sister in law is on the Atkins diet and she said the diet jello was ok, i read his book and i did not remember anything about the jello. She has lost alot of weight so i thought maybe it would be ok, i'll have to go back to the library and get his new book so that i'll know what's ok and what's not ok.
Thanks again.

There is a very interesting bit of information from Atkins newest book about the effects of repeating induction, posted by Karen, here:

Something to think about, that's for sure!

Thanks Marlaine, something to think about, like you said. My husband has been very, very sick and it has been difficult to stay on the maintenance part and that's why I wanted to start over, back to square one now that he's out of the hospital and back at home.
Thanks again,
Maria
