Unhappy so frustrated :(

I have been on this journey for a year now. I resisted change somewhat, and have realized what drastic measures I need to take. mostly the candida has taken over and interfered with my relationship with my husband. I can't express my self physically to him and it breaks my heart. I am either not interested or itchy and burning. the lack of interest was partially due to hormonal imbalance, which i have worked to correct with hrt. i am tired, tired of explaining my situation to my family and friends, tired of seeing doctors who only partially understand, or understand, but charge me hundreds of dollars to help me, tired of this block between my husband and myself, tired of feeling good, then unknowingly sabotaging myself then feeling bad, tired of crying. i just need to get to a place that i sometimes think is only in my mind. where i don't itch, don't feel gooey, don't feel so emotional, don't feel tired, have an interest and ability to express my love. right now i feel so robbed. i need to know there is that place.

Have you thought about going to a homeopath instead of a traditional doctor. I think they listen more and if he/she is also an MD also, they have a greater choice of treatments. I don't have most of your problems but I do have hormonal problems, unexplained weight gain and extreme fatigue. After suffering for years I finally feel better after only one month. My Dr. said it will take about a year to get back to normal--but I don't have to worry about side effects of traditional meds so will gladly take it.

Thank you for your advice. I do have a Homopath/MD. She is very expensive, because my insurance does not cover her. 20 min is $240. I have felt better, but had a recent set back. I suppose just needing to vent. The candida is more frustrating to me than the hormones. The bio-identical hrt has worked well for me, making the set backs with candida all the more frustrating. I guess knowing if someone has reached the other side of candida and is experiencing a "normal" life with no itching, bloating, burning, and a "normal" diet would give me some hope.

Wow, my Dr. charged me $20 for 20 minutes! Also I have to wonder if your ins. co. wouldn't cover at least the visit as she is an MD and could bill under that. I know my last Dr. did it that way and this one can do it for my sis. I don't have ins. so I pay it myself.

HI

I'm new here and this is my first post. LAF3's post struck me because it is very similar to my own experience. I did the rounds of tons of doctors and had serious malnutrition with anemia and severe B2 deficiency. I felt so low and had candida symptoms too, which I began to suspect might be candida linked but never knew for sure until I bought The Complete Candida Guidebook.

I started the diet and started taking the medications, with rotating (to avoid yeast becomming resistant to any one medication) and next week I see a candida specialist for the first time. I have had bad die-off symptoms initially, although they are slightly better now.

I will get the full work-up from this new specialist, although interestingly I had already had confirmed from a previous specialist that I had blastocystis hominis, and severe allergy to yeast and all fermented foods, plus gluten sensitivity.

I'm now on the diet suggested in the book, and I don't mind the diet so much as that I really need to know what LAF3 said . . . that there will be a day when I am really properly better. I had hoped it might be only a few weeks away but now from what I read it is looking like months . . .

Be sure to check out the other Candida info here in the forum. Hopefully, the diet recommended in your book is not low-fat, high-carb! Good luck!

Thanks algts!

No, the diet in my book seems to be working quite well and I see the doctor on Wednesday so he can confirm everything with tests, but I have already noticed a lot of changes.

The diet is based around protein, high vegetables and whole grains 9that's the right stuff, right? ) No refined grains are permitted, and a lot of other stuff is cut out during the treatment phase too, such as certain types of high-mould nuts etc.

Thanks for telling me about the other Candida info too. I'll have a look at the stickies. I even bought a thermos flask to take the homemade stuff with me if I'm out shopping, since alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and a lot of dairy (all the non-yogurt dairy really except for butter in small amounts for cooking) is cut out too.

I was a happy high-carber up til now, so I'm trying hard to look at this in a positive way. Thanks for your support!!! I am trying to meet a few people who've done this and come out the other side.

I know a lady who got very sick, she gained a lot of weight and hurt so badly she could barely walk. Her regular MD wasn't much help so she went to a naturopath. He recommended the diet in The Great Candida Guidebook. She followed it religiously and slowly lost all of her excess weight, got her energy back and felt great. She stuck with the diet for about a year after that and then she began to incorporate some of the foods she'd previously given up. Very shortly after that she noticed that some of her symptoms were coming back. She felt tired and her body ached, she quickly gained weight and walking became increasingly difficult. She was very upset that her candida symptoms returned so quickly but she finally accepted that candida is a lifelong condition that has to be managed rather then something that can be cured completely. I suffer from many of the same symptoms that my friend had and I do notice that many of my symptoms worsen when I stray from a low carb diet. Good luck getting control of your candida LAF3. Stick with the diet, its the only thing that will give you lasting results.

Thanks, Anniriki. It's good to know that there is a way to control the symptoms at least.

I have also heard that some people are on oral oxygen tablets to help, so I'll investigate this when I see the doctor tomorrow. I'm feeling much better on the diet, but it's very frustrating when I have to go out or see friends socially. Most of my close friends understand, but it's difficult in restaurants etc. I was never one of those people who couldn't give up foods, but it would be good to know that eventually I might be able to have some pasta or something once in a while without suffering really bad effects.

I am so sorry to hear how you are feeling. I just wanted to quickly share my story in case it is helpful. I tried for years to give up sugar to help control a chronic yeast problem (1 bought 2 tubes of Miconazole weekly for over 4 years). I finally decided to give up grains and, within, three days my rash was gone for good. I was shocked because I was eating whole grains and no sugar for those periods and it didn't do any good. I had to give up grains. Sugar is not a trigger unless I eat a whole lot of it (like, REALLY a lot), but grains I'm back red and itchy right away.
