My 90 day "no snacking between meals" habit I'm developing.

I'm glad you guys are finding this interesting. I don't consider this so much a challenge but simply PRACTICE. I keep thinking about the skateboarder learning a new "trick". There is no "fail" only a visualized or verbal goal, attempt after attempt (fails) and between each attempt keen observation (hopefully objective like, "flick foot less" not subjective like "I suck I'll never get this") and and another attempt, and maybe after 3 months (90 days) of trying this cycle something happens, something clicks, you land it, you know this now in your body - it's not a mental thing - It's now part of you that you can use to expand in a new direction and begin the process all over again. Another cycle of "failure".

I love PRACTICE even if it hurts a wee bit have a good weekend!

I did find the vid you posted interesting. Though I will admit to cringing when that guy fell spectacularly over and over. I got the practice aspect of it, but had a couple other take-aways from that Ted Talk.

First, the idea of possibility. We have to think something is possible to be able to do it. Second was the importance of community. I think this thread accomplishes both.

Day 2: 5 minutes
I was pretty tired by the time I finished up obsessing over some backpacking trip possibilities last night, but I did make time to go sit on my floor cushion and quiet my brain of the obsessions. Good thing, too, because I doubt I would have been able to fall asleep without it.

Day 1 - Eating Slower

Unsuccessful!

Restarts - 3

Dinner last night - Chinese Buffet w/ duck, pork riblets, prawns, bok choy, zuccini, green beans, greek salad. Did good!

Lunch today - my usual salad but had guests. Chatting while eating and completely forgot to slow down.

Day 1 again, starting tonight with dinner ...

Good job so far today, NEMarvin and dex!

Day 5: analyzing whether mid afternoon "hunger" is really that, or interest.

Did fine at mid afternoon. But we were going out to eat, the reservations weren't till 7:30, and by 5:30 I was HUNGRY. I ate a slice of skinny bacon, and drank a glass of water.

It helped.

HI Guys!

WOW! Thanks Thud, for such a super cool thread! I have been reading this for a bit, and you guys have chosen SO MANY great goals!!! I like your "practice, practice, practice!" attitude. It's just like I tell my students, there is no "fail" and you can't say, "I don't get it." In my class, we make "excellent mistakes" (these are errors or mis-steps we can reflect on, and learn from so as to make a different choice next time.) And, when my kids are struggling, when they are frustrated and they say, "I don't get it!!!" I say to them, "Yeah, you don't get it YET!, but you WILL."

SO MANY great ideas! I need to do them ALL!!! ...Eat slower, don't snack between meals, meditate and take ten minutes for myself, quit wasting time on the computer, stay within carb range and under max calories, get in my steps, and do some squats and arm exercises! The only thing on all of your lists I already do is drink lots of water!

Okay, 90 days... starting tomorrow...

I have been thinking about this a lot, and I think the best goal for me is
Do SOME kind of exercise EVERYDAY. This includes ANYthing: stretching, yoga, walking, arms, squats, big ball, push-ups, crunches... ANYTHING!!! I suspect some days I'll knock it out of the park and do lots (you mean like run a 10k without training! Uh, yeah. haha), other nights, it'll be 20 quick push-ups before I crash in bed!

I am HOPING to balance things out, do some of this and some of that...but simply the CONSISTENCY of DAILY exercise is my GOAL!!!

It's late here, but...hold on... Okay! (panting a little) 30 push-ups! DONE! Day 1-done! 89 to go!

Start: June 11, Day #1
End (reset challenge): Sept 8, Day #90

Did ever so well then failed spectacularly.
It's a learning curve and I genuinely think I do better eating a bit less more often. I am following the obesity code thread (getting into the fat burning mode) to be honest been feeling a bit guilty eating every couple of hours. WTH!!
We are all different (vive la difference) so I am going back to what I think works for me!
Changing my 90 day practice to only eating on plan even if that does include a snack.
Restart
Day one!

Day 6 - No computer hearts

Day 3 - No eating after 6 PM

I'm surprised how well this is working for me. It kept me from having a snack last night and continues to keep me from wasting time playing hearts.

Comments:

Tuff weekend so far. Bought pizza for a crew I was using as slave labor friday night and the thought occured to me, "I hear low carbers can just the topping" then I thought about if that was a snack and said "yes, that's a snack unless you eat A LOT of toppings" I wasn't really that hungry so I let feeling pass and slept on an empty stomach.

The next morning I was up early and bought 2 dozen donuts for the same crew. They smelled really good in the car and thought to myself, "I wonder how many of those I could eat in a row?" Then I started to laugh. I didn't want to try THAT challenge

After it was all said and done I kind of felt guilty for buying that food but I thought it would be a nice thing to do for them.

You see, I might be part of their problem. Certainly I participated in the larger problem of eating junk food in USA. Next time I have an opportunity to buy people working their asses off for free I'll consider other options. Oh well, life rolls on with and without good decisions.
