Default Hello from Australia

Hi all,

Barb here in Sydney, Australia. 1st day of week 4 on ATKINS and so far I have lost 4kgs (8.8lbs). I am still on Induction by choice but am thinking of upping the carbs this week.

I just joined this busy site the other day and am still finding my way around.

I absolutely love the success stories, so amazing and inspiring and have looked at lots of photo's in the gallery, such inspiration there also.

I know I am going to keep coming back here to get motivated and am finding out more and more about doing it the low carb way until it becames a WOL for me.

Barb

And welcome from another Aussie here, too, Barb.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, we have our own Oz/NZ subforum here which is great for giving local info. If you click here, the link will take you straight there.

Cheers, matey. Every success!

Thanks everybody for the very warm welcome, I'll be sure to check out all the links as I determined to make French Toast with crushed pork rinds (from the recipe here), if only I can find the Aussie equivalent of pork rinds ...................

The 25g packets of Gold Medal Snacks' Pork Krackles are about a dollar.

You can find more info about them in the Aussie forum.

Hi Barb

Welcome. I am from SA and I too love the success stories. I am in week 6 of my new WOL and if it wasn't for the inspiration I find from this site I think I might not have stuck to it thus far. I come here as much as possible too to keep motivated, it really helps.

Nice to have you onboard. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Guys

Well after going to the OZ/NZ pages and seeing the pork rind help, I bought them tonight at Woolies, yes they were expensive but hey I am not buying junk food or lollies anymore so it's all relative. Bought 2 packets of GOLD MEDAL SNACKS Pork Krackles ready to make some French Toast at the weekend and whatever else I can find uses for........

Also bought some cocoa powder (low carb),some extra cream and a packet of Splenda granulated powder, gonna make some kind of mousse thing I suppose??

This is all new to me, and I was amazed at how LOW FAT my whole thinking is........took me 10 minutes to compare all the Mayo choices but I found one that is low carb/low sugar..........you don't realise how bombarded you have been over the years with the low fat thingie.......there is not really that much Low Carb stuff here in Oz.........couldn't find any kind of bread or wrap, though I did search extensively.

I did however find the ATKINS baking powder and the muffin powders - not very well displayed, but I found them eventually............lemon poppy seed and blueberry, VERY expensive......anybody tried them??

How are they?? Are they worth the expense?

The last time I did an ATKINS type diet 2 years ago I made some kind of bread/muffin with cottage cheese and whatever baking powder it was and it was DISGUSTING, I cracked after 8 days with a craving for REAL bread.

The muffin powders were AUD $9.95 - that's USD $6.95 and the ATKINS bake powder was AUD $20.95 - that's USD $14.60 - I didn't buy them tonight.........but I did linger in the aisle LOL!!

Hi Barb...

I don't like the lo-carb mixes. I just don't. So, instead I go without the bread. I have reverted to salads for lunch and roll ups for breakfast.

I was not a big bread eater prior to moving to Australia (originally from the US), but the sandwiches and salad rolls here just got me....right in the gut, butt and thighs.

I stopped eating the bread cold-turkey. It was not easy, but I did it. When I start adding the bread back in, it will be of my own making and very high in fibre. I like whole seed bread best anyhow, so this is not going to be difficult.

I have looked at the empower site and will try their tortilla/wraps.

Oh, and the sugar that is in everything here drives me NUTS! I ony buy Best Foods or S&W mayonnaise. The other stuff is toooooo sweet!

good luck with next few days. You are going to be at goal before you know it!

Susan

Hi Susan from the US,

I have decided not to try any products for the moment. I do miss bread though

I will try the wraps from the Empower range when I am a bit nearer to my goal I think.

I never really looked at how much sugar there was in anything since starting this Atkins WOL. Do you think there is more here than in the US?

I spent ages the other night at the supermarket checking out all the different mayonaisse's as I was so used to just grabbing the low fat one.

I found one I hadn't noticed before (mind you it could have been around for donkey's years, I just hadn't looked at it before??) anyways it's called
KRAFT CREAMY TRADITIONAL STYLE MAYONAISSE.......0.2g CARB and 0.2g SUGARS in each 20g serve.

This was the lowest I could find.

It's amazing how much longer it takes you to shop when you have to use your brain and THINK LOL!!

Kind Regards
Barb
