Question breastfeeding and low carb diets

I recently had a baby on 091101, and I was wondering if it was a good idea to be on a low carb diet and nursing.

Smile hi achsons

Congrats on your baby ... boy or girl??

I'll give you links to some of the lowcarb program sites, and their official stance on low-carb and pregnancy ...Basically, they recommend following Maintenance levels of their programs (Carb Addicts says no, period, to their program, since 2 meals a day are very low carb) ... this means approx. 100g carbs per day, and a minimum level of protein to meet the demands that nursing will put on your body. And lots of water. Atkins lists some vitamin & mineral supplements too ... you should certainly be taking a good quality daily supplement with extra folate, B12, calcium and potassium.

Why not pop into our Introductions forum and tell folks a bit about yourself .. you'll get lots of support and encouragement.

All the best to you and your new baby

Doreen
