Question Carb content in cream

Out of idle curiosity I found myself checking the carb content in a pot of single cream I'd bought from Somerfield. Now before we moved I was getting cream from Waitrose at a very happy 0g carb per pot. This one I suddenly noticed was 3.9g per 100ml!!!

Okay, so at least I may have found part of the cause of my recent stall, but I do wonder how there could come to be such a difference between stores for essentially the same product? I'm assuming this one boils down to a basic difference of cheaper store, cheaper cream, less wholesome manufacturing process...

Still, its really made me aware you can't afford to stop checking labels... even on "safe" foods. Off to Tescos next to see what theirs has to say for itself!

I think the Waitrose figure is a bit optimistic. About 2.8ish for double cream is what I would call average - also double is lower than single.

Ah... thank you very much for that, Robert; I really appreciate it.

I've only just got used to single cream instead of milk in my latte though... not sure I could manage double! I do prefer double cream for everything else, so I guess its just time to switch to macchiato coffee!

I wonder why he says you can have all the cream you like on induction then?

2.7 in my Tescos one... a distinct improvement on single! And how happy am I having grown up in Devon to learn that Devon clotted cream is lower still at 2.2!!!

Alright for some mind you... we're still waiting for our fridge to be delivered! Oh boy am I going to have a mass cooking day when it gets here... I really miss my mayo and guacamole!

I have cream in coffee... scrambled eggs... omlette... frittata... sauces... baking... er... anywhere I can find an excuse for it actually! Then again, I'm still on induction so he does say to have as much fat as you can...

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Still haven't found out why its on the unlimited food list when it can contain so many carbs though?

I use it with my omlettes, scrambled egg, strawberries, on the odd occasion i have SF jelly, to make sauces (mainly cauliflower cheese:yum

I love greek yogurt especially Rachels but i think it's about 4.2g per 100ml so i only have a little for breakfast with some nuts to get my carb count up otherwise i feel all day.

Default Limited but lovely

I believe cream is not unlimited - but it is allowed in limited quantities (like lemon juice, avocado, olives), though he says it might slow weight loss. I'm sure it is slowing my weight loss cause I love cream and exceed my allowance when I have it with s/f jelly - but if it keeps me on Atkins its worth the slower weight loss. Yeo Valley organic cream actually tastes like cream used to and is yummy in the extreme.

PS: Just checked Yeo Valley double is 2.8 g for 100 mls while Sainsbury's whipping cream is 3.0 g for 100 mls.
