What a nice welcome, thank you!
I love this "diet" I can really see myself sticking to this for life, the only thing I crave at the min is wine, I make my own and even tho I say it myself, It's lovely, nice and chilled from the fridge! After week two, is a couple of glasses ok? and will it slow down my loss if I cut back on other carbs?
One other thing, sorry for being a pest, but are pork skratchings ok to eat instead of crisps as a snack? not a whole bag, but just something to crunch on.

Just wanted to say hi!!

You will never be a pest, so don't ever hesitate to ask whatever question you have, that is what everyone is here for, and what makes this site so wonderful.

To your question, I don't know what a pork scratching is. If it is what we call port rinds, then yes, it is a great occasional snac, Everyone will warn you about the salt, but sometimes you just need the crunch!!! and celery really doesn't get it. I sometimes have pork rind nachos, certainly not as yummy as doritos, but it gets the job done. Put the rinds on a plate, sprinkle some shredded cheese, microwave til cheese melts, and then serve with a little sour cream. Not for everyone, but on occasion, it does make for a good lc snack..

LOL, It is pork rinds, they call them scratchings round here. It is the crunch that I'm missing, so nice to know I can snack on those.

Hi and welcome from a fellow Brit

The occasional glass of wine is fine, but be warned, many lowcarbers find that their tolerance for alcohol drops, meaning it will take fewer drinks to get drunk. Make sure you drink plenty of water along with your wine and plenty afterwards, otherwise you will become dehydrated and have a terrible hangover the next day.

Also, it can slow your weight loss due to the fact that your body will burn the alcohol in preference to fat.

Ketones are made in your liver from the fatty acids made when you burn fat cells. However, your liver can make ketones out of alcohol too, and in fact the process is much simpler than making them out of fat. So each time you have some alcohol the fat-burning will get put on hold until all of the alcohol has been metabolized in the liver. So, although you shouldn't put on weight because of the alcohol, your weight loss will slow because the alcohol is being used first.

You should also be careful, because too much alcohol can lead to a carby binge - mainly because you lose your 'inhibitions' and start craving carbs. Too many, and you will gain weight.

However, if you are sensible, then there shouldn't be a problem.

As for the scratchings (aka pork rinds), yes they are fine, though watch out for the salt content, which can cause water retention.

Hi Cathy,

Nice to see some fellow Brits in here. I eat the occasional pork scratching, i find the best place to get them from is Morrisons. Demi is right about the wine, i got caught out this week, drank the same is i normally do, but had a three day hangover!

Good luck with your weight loss.Hope to see you around in the forums.

H.
