Default Psyllium Husk Fiber Supplement - count the carbs?

This morning I am using a 100% natural Psyllium Husk Fiber Supplement.

TOTAL CARBS 5 grams
3 grams Dietary Fiber
2 grams Soluble Fiber

I am starting 3rd week of Induction comsuming only 20 carbs per day.

Do I count the TOTAL 5 grams OF CARBS as part of my 20 gram intake?

Thank you

Your 20g limit is NET carbs, not total carbs. That is the total carbs - Fiber carbs. If you are just having 20 total carbs, there is a good chance you aren't getting the veggies and fober you need.

No no no! Do not count the fiber carbs as carbs. We subtract the FIBER so you are fine (Ladybelle's post wasn't super clear, but that was what she was trying to say about net carbs and such...).

In Atkins Book the Carb Gram Counter has Total Carbs and "Digestible Carbs".

I have been following the Total Carbs when counting my 20 grams a day intake. If I understand clearly? When using Atkins Book for counting my carbs I should use the "Digestible Carbs" column and when using any packaged products subtract the Fiber grams from Total Carbs to determine the correct carb count?

Would you say I am clear on this or a bit confused?
many, many thanks

When there are fiber carbs, subtract them. That is your "net carbs" or "digestable carbs." Don't use the total carbs as your 20 grams. Subtract the fiber first.

in my country psyllium HUSKS have zero digestible carbohydrates. psyllium itself has some carbs, they said, but if you use only the husks, there are no carbs at all. they said.

whereas many in the forum seem to consider flax seeds as completley carb free. in austria it has 6 g carbs per 100 g, which is written on the label of packed pure flax seed and that is not so exremely low in carbs.

is it possible that different countries believe in different carb percentages of the same food?

greetings, the duck

Dear Duck,

I am sure you are right that each country has it's own regulations by which foods by which they calculate dietary standarders .

I think it is a personal call, we each use what we find gives us the best results in the lowest carbs possible.

best regards,

hi there Duck,

According to the Flax Council of Canada, the nutrient profile of 100g of flaxseed is:
Protein 21g
Fat 42g
Dietary Fibre 28g
Carbohydrate 6g
Other(water, ash) 3g

So yes, there are 6g net carbs in 100g of flaxseed. The thing is .. 100g is a huge portion ... 3˝ oz. For most people, ˝ to 1 oz is considered a serving (15 - 30g). The carbs for a 30g serving is 1.8g net, which makes it an acceptable choice for a low-carb menu.

hi 94513,

i think I may have different health reasons for being interested in low carbs than many of you. I am born with an email defect on several teeth and I have to be very careful to keep bugs and dentists away from these little white pearls . So I have to know really exactly which food has carbs and which has none or almost none.

hi doreen,
thanks, this it is identical with Austrian counting then. You are right, nobody can it heaps of flax seed aaaarh, but as mentioned above it, for me it is more percentage that really matters
I would be happy if you could tell me the same thing with psyllium husk, how many carbs exactly would have 100g completely dry psyllium husks - are there any differences between brands? how can they tell me, that it is a absolute zero-carb-thing if it isn´t!

thanks, Duck

ingrediants wheat dextrin

I like this product, it it low carb compatable as long as I count the carb torwards my daily allotment?
I have tried phsyllium husks, nasty! Followed directions and mixed with water. Very thick and almost lost it. I did sincerely try it. I don't want to me constipated. Any ideas?

Most non-USA countries do not count fibre as being a carb at all and list them in a different part of the label from the 'total carbohydrates including sugars' part.

So we do not need to deduct fibre from the carbs as it is not included on our nutrition labels.

I am also confused by my Psyllium label. The stats for 5 grams:

0 Protein
0 Fat
0 Calories
0 sugar
2.7 grams fiber

So what are the other 2.3 grams of weight?

Ingredients are 100% ground psyllium husk.

You can get an idea of how well you are burning fat or if you are in ketosis/lipolysis (a good thing!) by using the Ketone strips that are dipped in your urine samples and really give a psychological boost of encouragement.
I've found that my colors much lighter when I took Sugar-free Citrucel and am looking for something better, though the product worked great for regularity.
