Default Couch Potato to Marathon training!

Ok - I think there is actually a podcast for this.

I will have to download it.

But that has little to do with my post.

Except that I have become a couch potato and now I am planning on running a marathon this December. Training doesn't start until the summer but I am trying to get in shape for the training.

I'm currently 220 lbs. HAHAHAHHAHA
I'm also physically out of shape. Yes, that maybe a no brainer but some peole are overweight and strong strapping specimens of a human. But not me.

So I am wondering if there are any people out there who want to commit to a goal and work this year to get to it?

We are currently in February and the Honolulu marathon is December 12th.

That gives me about 10 months to get into fighting shape!

Anyone else?

We can call out a goal and then post our progress here.

Either way - I will come back here and post my updates and small victories or even struggles here. If nobody minds.

Good luck with this! If I were you, I would commit to a walking program to get used to being our your feet a lot. It will reduce the likelihood that you will get an injury, especially a stress fracture, during your training when you start to run. I am starting up retraining after a pretty bad back injury, so I will be glad to lend you encouragement. I've done all kinds of races up to half marathon distance at all kinds of weights between 180 and 240 (longest I ever ran was 17 miles) and I love it, love it, love it.

Hey guys, I know this thread is a lilttle old but I have found a program..called couch to 5k...
I started it two weeks ago and found it to be really an easy program to start. Very doable workouts.
I have noticed though that since I have started my weight loss has stalled..so I don't know if it is just my body converting fat to muscle (I hope) or something else...
Have still been doing 20-25carbs/day....

It's common for weight to stall when you start a new exercise regimen. Your muscles retain water. You'll whoosh, keep at it!

Good luck with your training. I lived in Hawaii a while and while I didn't participate in the marathon, I know it's a beautiful race and it's very first-timer friendly.

My own goal about 1-1/2 years ago was to complete a triathlon this year which I did in April. My second is next month but my big goal this year is to complete the 111 mile El Tour de Tucson bicycle ride on November 23rd.
