Default Hi from a newbie

Hi ya all
I am very new to this site , so hope I am posting in the right bit.
After watching a tv documentary on the truth about carbs, I decided to give it a go, this is my 5th day and all I have done is cut out bread, potatoes, rice and pasta, as of this morning I have lost 7 lbs , that seems a really quick loss.
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks in advance x

Hi, Karen. Welcome! Congratulations to you. I think staying off the sweets and starches is a great idea, too.

If you like, have a look in the sub-forums, and Challenges/Buddies sections, and see what appeals to you on this forum. There is quite a range of approaches to Low Carb.

I wish you further happy success!

Welcome Karen
Your first post is in the "right bit" and there are so many other bits to explore to help you
I enter the forum through this index page http://forum.lowcarber.org
...you can see the organization of topics and sub-forums. Start reading back through a few pages on the topics of interest. In the media/research..we have that BBC special posted. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=480472
I personally follow a lower carb diet and would not consider messing around with freezing bread or chilling pasta to make "resistant starch"...like you I would just cut it out completely. But this forum supports many LC programs so look around. It was a good program to inspire folks, esp. someone with diabetes. Dr. Unwin is the best!

Great start! Much of the weight loss in the first week is water...but that is a good thing! here's a thread that explains it. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=365499

All the best

When you first start a low carb diet you lose a lot of water weight because you are using up your glycogen stores which retain water. The way the body stores glycogen uses up water, so when you get rid of the glycogen you get rid of the water. It's nothing to worry about.
