Default Splurge question? Need help.

Okay, so I am having a family get-together this weekend, and we know what that means. Delicious foods. So, I've truly never splurged on my diet before, and I would really appreciate it if somebody explained it for me.

I've reached my ideal goal weight, and I am just trying to maintain my weight on a LC diet now, but with this family get-together coming up, I would really like to enjoy this day, without worrying what is low carb, and what isnt, and without have intense anxiety after i eat. So, What are the rules for splurging? What will happen to my weight? I have this fear in the back of my head that my numbers on the scale are just going to shoot back up and be back right where i started? Please, somebody clear this up for me. Thankyou.

First of all...breathe...you'll be fine!

This is a way of life for you now and should not be fraught with anxiety.

If it was me, I would focus on enjoying my friends and family, eat mainly the dishes that are lc but, if I choose to eat the higher carb fare, limit the fattiest choices (carbs raise insulin so less fat consumed during the splurge will be less fat available for storage) and have small portions of the higher carb items. Enjoy yourself and your family.

Drink lots of water and don't be too stressed if you see the scale go up a couple lbs for the next day or two. It happens and it's most likely water.

Get right back to your maintainence plan and enjoy the wonderful memories of your get together!!

Enjoy the day, eat what you want but don't stuff yourself with foods just because you can have them.

Be prepared for your weight to jump up the following day from retained water. (remember it takes 3500 extra calories to gain a pound. You will not gain 3 to 5 pounds of fat from one splurge day)

Be prepared to possible feel a little hung over the following day. Get back onto a strict low carb plan until you loose the extra weight then ease back into you maintenance diet.

Have fun.
