Unhappy Yikes!!

Why does it seem that "temptations" always seem to come in groups, making it harder to resist? Today at work, where I can usually be quite good and bring my own food, not taking any of the muffins, candies, bagels, whatever that always seem to be floating around (lots of drug reps bring in goodies). Today, however, was not a good day for me. First of all, it was a coworkers 40th B-Day, and we had a white chocolate mousse cake from the bakery at the Meridian Hotel - mmm mmm good. I only had a small slice, but it was soooooo good.

Then a patient came in to collect some paperwork that I had ready, and she brought me a bag of Purdy's white chocolate almond bark. Who can resist that? I always tell our patients that they have to bring a treat when I do something "special" like beg and plead for earlier appointments with other specialists, etc. Who knew anyone actually would do so? Everybody usually just laughs. Yikes!! I'm going to have to stop saying that, because I don't want anyone to bring in treats, especially really good ones that I don't seem to be able to resist.

I don't normally like sweet things too much, but once I started, I craved more! The really bad part is that after leaving work for the day, I had to stop on the way home to pick up some work from my other job, and now I feel really lousy - tired and lethargic. I haven't felt like this for a while. Not a good time!!

Post Ask yourself...

I guess it can be hard to resist the temptations..

...especially those that we readily gave into in the past. It's habit, and habits are hard to break.

But next time there are sweets at work, think about the summer months that will be here in about 5 minutes and about the clothes you'd like to wear and how staying on plan will help you feel more comfortable and able to do things you want to do.

Only you can decide what's more important. White chocolate bark or whatever the reasons were that brought you to LCing in the first place.

Good luck...

Donald

different people resist different ways...

One way is to announce at work, "Hey, I know I'm fat. And I've decided to not eat sugar or white flour. I hope y'all can help me." For me, making such an announcement means that I'd be far too humiliated to eat in front of them again!

Another way to is keep emergency snacks on hand.

Another way is, as Donald said, to remind yourself of the reasons you're LCing.

Keep a list of all the symptoms you get on sugar--cravings, lethargy, etc. And keep a list of all the great things about LC. Review it often.

Do understand that there will always, always be a world of sugar out there. A WOL means we have to learn how to not eat it! Whatever strategy you choose, one of the above or another, choose it, make a commitment to it, and see if it works. If it doesn't work, you simply need a new strategy. Eventually, you'll find one that works for you!

For now, forgive yourself and move foward.
