Default Down 30 pounds in 16 weeks

Today marks my 16 week weigh in. I am recording an official loss of 30 pounds! I started out in January by giving up wheat and sugar to try to rid my body of imflammation and pain. That soon became Atkins, followed by low carb with a side of Intermittent fasting. I am moving towards Primal, but will keep my carbs low while still trying to lose weight. I think the focus on whole foods is important for everyone, regardess of the name of their "program".

Aside from losing 30 pounds, I have been working on improving my sleep. I take a magnesium supplement and frequent epsom salt baths. My lack of sleep over the past 10 years has contributed to my weight gain, I didn't have any restorative sleep for a very long time. I am sleeping much better, not getting up to pee, not in chronic pain, not taking Advil PM, and averaging 6-7 hours a night uninterrupted sleep. This is a HUGE improvement for me. I really believe sleep is a key issue in losing weight and regaining health.

I come here to the forums for daily inspiration. I hope that I can help to inspire others here as well.

Congratulations Wheeler! You are having fantastic success with weight loss and better sleep. Robb Wolf is big on sleep for health and need of a super dark bedroom, as are many others. Do you have a plan for the Alaska summer..do you use eyeshades? But whatever you are doing...keep on keeping on!

Well done you! Dr. Atkins brings sleep into his book too. Following his advice I have always tried to go to bed a bit earlier to get better sleep, and I think it helped me too.

Good luck with your ongoing weight-loss adventure.

Way to go! I'm a huge believer in the amazing benefits of sleep. I totally black out my bedroom now. Bought a white noise machine, which is awesome, and if I don't need to get up, I sleep in if I feel like it. But my schedule varies a lot, and on those days that I need to get up early after six hours and put in a long day, I'm fine too.

What type of magnesium are you taking? I need to buy more in the next week, and I'm not sure if I should try another brand. Even purely for sleep this stuff is better than any rx I've tried.

Shannone, Wheeler hasn't posted for a few days...maybe off mushing with her dog sled team (how interesting is that?), so I'll add my two cents. Or Dr. Eades...tips for Buying magnesium here:
http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/...low-carb-pt-ii/

Robb Wolf recommended a powder, Natural Calm, because it is absorbed by body better. Have to mix with hot water and watch the amounts so you don't overdose, but it works well. Though it is easier to pop a pill, so I also buy Now chelated mag from Amazon.

Wheeler...hope you are doing well, enjoying the new puppies and some glimmers of springtime.
