Coles "low carb" bread
I noticed in the flyer a few weeks ago that coles was carrying a new "low carb" bread and since i was unable to find it i wrote to customer relations to find out what exactly constituted a low carb bread - ie nutritional information. I'll post it here so no one else waste's their time looking for it or for heavens sake buying it!
Bread mix (wheat flour, wheat gluten, milk solids, canola oil, salt, soy flour, dextrose, emulsifiers [(472E, 481(both vegetable derived)], malted wheat flour, vitamin (thiamine), water, yeast. May contain sesame or poppy seeds. Store in a cool, dry place.
33% lower carbohydrates than Coles In-store White Sandwich or Toast 690g Loaf.
The nutritional information is as follows:
SERVINGS/PACKAGE: 10.0 SERVING SIZE 68G
AVG QTY/SERVING 68G AVG QTY/100G
ENERGY 558KJ 821KJ
PROTEIN 6.4G 9.4G
FAT, TOTAL 1.2G 1.7G
- SATURATED LESS THAN 1G LESS THAN 1G
CARBOHYDRATE 21.0G 31.0G
- SUGARS LESS THAN 1G 1.0G
DIETARY FIBRE,TOTAL 5.9G 8.7G
SODIUM 281MG 414MG
Ok so thats total crap! I looked at my DH's normal non LC loaf of Country Split White and heck it has 20gms/2 slices - LESS than a so called LC bread!
I really am not pleased with how companys are marketing things as carb this or low carb that and then saying they are 33% less (like this bread or the stupid carb options pasta etc) when that truly isnt suitable for any low carb WOE.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr this drives me nuts as you might have noticed.
