Default would love labwork opinion on C-reactive protein. Cholesterol & Triglycerides fine

I got labs back today. Overall they're not too bad. I've never been able to get HDL very high. Before I started low carbing it was usually somewhere in the 28-32 range. I'm a little concerned about the C-reactive protein. This was the first time I've had it tested and it doesn't seem very good. Oh, and my hormones show I'm perimenopausal. I knew this by the hot flashes LOL

Blood work said:

Quote:
LH 41.8 , FSH 37.8 "These are consistent with perimenopausal or postmenopausal levels for these pituitary hormones"

Cholesterol was 154 with less than 200 being normal
HDL was 45 (normal 35-65)
LDL was 95 (0-130 normal)
Triglycerides were 71 (less than 250 being normal)

Your vitamin D levels were perfect (I need to call tomorrow to find actual numbers)

C-reactive protein level was 0.33, consistent with moderate risk factors for developing coronary artery disease. Otherwise these labs looks excellent.

I take 2 tsp. of Carlson's very finest fish oil a day. 2 tsp. equal 3,200mg Omega-3 fatty acids. Breakdown is EPH: 1,600mg, DHA: 1,000mg, and other 300mg

I take 6,000 IU of vitamin-D (three 2,000 IU soft gels from carlson).

1,000 mg calcium, 400 mg magnesium, 15mg zinc

I eat 2 tablespoons of ground flax a day (they seem to help with hot flashes)

1-2 tablespoons virgin coconut oil

NSI NutriSlim Low Carb Dieter's Basic Multi-Vitamin Ver 2

I'm very good staying on Atkins. 3-4 cups veggies a day, weakness pork rinds. I do eat too many of those.

looking at this, does anyone have any thoughts on the c-reactive protein? I read:

Quote:
What is the normal range of hs-CRP level?

If hs-CRP level is lower than 1.0 mg/L, a person has a low risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
If hs-CRP is between 1.0 and 3.0 mg/L, a person has an average risk.
If hs-CRP is higher than 3.0 mg/L, a person is at high risk.

I'm guessing the .33 is actually 3.3mg/L if the labs called it moderate risk?

Do you smoke or drink a lot?

.33 looks like it'd be in the low risk group. Might want to get the actual test.

I don't smoke or drink at all. In fact today was 4 years smoke free! No caffeine either lol. Yeah, better ask for clarification on that. Thanks Nancy

.33 is less than 1.0 mg/l so it is an excellent score. Your doctor misstated your risk. My score is .58.

I would be interested in your Vitamin D score also.

He called back today. He said between .1 and .4 was moderate risk for heart disease. He said over .4 was high risk. He said my .33 was pretty good and explained in the past it has been .8 or .9, he didn't have that in front of him. Which was news to me, I never knew. He expects that will contnue to go down as I lose more wieght and become healthier.

My D levels were 64 for 125 and 69 for 25 levels. He said that was very good.

Your doctor is using a different standard than I am used to seeing.

This is the standard that Labcorp uses for CR-P:
Future Cardiovascular risk:
Low <1.0
Average 1 -3
High >3

Your Vitamin D is at an optimum level. Over time it should raise your HDL.

Thank you for explaining Utah Jake. I was on 4,000 IU D for a few months and just recently bumped up to 6,000 IU (maybe not quite a month ago). Will I go too high once I'm on 6,000 for a couple of months?

I went up t 6,000 because the psoriasis on my elbows were coming back. I tend to get that in winter. In the few weeks I've been at 6,000 my elbows have really cleared up.

At your age, 6000 seems to be the right dosage for you. Stay with it.
