Default worried about eating fat

I know the atkins diet lets you eat fat to lose weight, my brain is saying no fat or low fat.

My cholesteral level is 221, im not really that much overweight i just wanna lose about 15, to 20lbs. I weigh 174 and wanna get to 154, Ive been on the diet 1 week and lost 4lbs, can somebody explain more about the ketosis and eating fat. My husband is very overweight and he has lost 10lb in one week doing this diet, but he is also worried about the fat content.

We cook in a little butter and olive oil and eat what the book says, but we think its alot of fat.

Here's another good starting point:

Dr Barry Groves site.

This whole forum as chock full of information on why fat is not bad for you. Just need to pull up a chair and start reading!

Have you read Gary Taubes book, Good Calories, Bad Calories?

Stop and think for a moment! "If saturated fat were bad for you, your body would not store it." I, personally, eat 70 to 80 percent fat, most of it saturated, and am at my high school weight with no health problems. Not sure what your concerns are, but fat does not make you fat, fat does not clog your arteries, fat only raises HDL cholesterol. Your biggest concern should be elevated insulin, which is not responsive to fat. Just my two cents worth. And, yes read the books recomended.

google the Gary Taubes New York Times article "Big Fat Lie". From all the reading I've done over the last year, I have found fat is good. I eat lots, and my cholesterol is going down. Read Dr. Davis' blog on what wheat does for your cholesterol. You're afraid of the wrong thing.
