Default Low Carb Bread

Hi !
Just started diet on Monday (Saturday today), but I really miss bread.
I've found a couple of low-carb recipes but both contain wheat gluten flour, which I'm having trouble finding in the Darlington area. One health food shop said they could get it but it'd have to be specially ordered !?!?!?
Does anyone know where I can get it easily ?
A brand name might be useful, or maybe something I can use instead.
Even better, does anyone know a recipe for bread containing ingredients which are all easily availabe
Thanx!
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

There are a couple of branded breads that you can buy in the UK. One is Nutribread (approx 7g carbs per slice) and the other is Burgen (approx 10g carbs per slice). But it is better to wait until you've finished induction before introducing them into your diet.

Post No Bread for me

I hardly ever buy a loaf of bread now - just one roll if I really must have it. I did miss it a lot in the beginning. Feel lazy to try making LC bread!

Instead of roti/naan with curries I now use Iceberg lettuce. That is probably not what you want to hear but that was my solution and it works for me.

Take care.

Thanx for the tips!
I've found plenty of low carb sandwich fiilers/cracker spreads.
I've been using slices of edam instead of crackers, the rubbery texture is ideal. Abso gorgeous with a thin smear of marmite.
(Marmite's about 15% carb but you use such a small amount it's almost negligible)

Thumbs up Happy for you

Isn't it wonderful how you get an answer - sometimes from "within" as soon as you ask the question?

I am glad you found the solution. Personally I can't stand marmite (grrrrr) and I like the crunchy nature of Iceberg - each to his own.

Like the thought of Edam slice instead of bread.
Take care.

Default LC Bread

Hi,

Tesco does Heinz WeightWatchers bread Warbutons. It has only 4.5g carb per slice.

Many thanks Ella,
found the Warburtons Weight watchers bread,
found they do about 5 different ones ranging from 4.5 to about 10 carbs per slice. Bought some at 7.2
By 7pm last night I was only up to 4.5g so was able to have a couple of slices of cheese on toast. HEAVEN!!!

Default Cheese on Toast

You just reminded me of one of my favourite meals.

Toast one side of a slice of bread. Turn it over, spread thickly with grated cheese, spices (garam masala, red chilli, jeera - fresh green chilli and lots of fresh corriander/parsley). Grill until lightly browning.

Ooooo my mouth is watering just thinking of it - haven't had it for months.

With LC knowledge I'd even put a few olives/achovies to give it that extra boost of protein.

Take care.

If you don't mind making your own bread, I'm just about to try the basic protein bread receipe from Atkins - simple ingredients and 18g carbs for the whole loaf.

If you don't have the recipe in the book you have, send me a pm and I'll forward it to you.

There's a website called www.carblife.com and they have loads of recipes on there, and most of the ingredients are either in your cupboard, or you can get them in H&B

Bread used to be my downfall. If I have a loaf in the house I just want to eat the lot. It really sets of cravings for me big time so I try and avoid it, I find bread worse than sugar for making me hungry and want more and more!
I eat lots of edam spread with butter, I put pecans or walnuts on sometimes for a change or spread it with peanut butter. It's a great snack when your'e hungry.
