Unhappy Living with Hyperthyroidism

I am new to this forum and new to Hyperthyroidism.

I had my third child 4 months ago but couldn't seem to get my energy or strength back or seem to get rest even though the little one sleeps through the night. I was recently diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism. The doc wants me to go back in a month. He is trying to see if it is postpardum or Graves disease. Because I am breastfeeding he cannot do the test he would normally do.

I am living with these symptoms that are HORRIBLE. My husband tells me I am crazy and when I go emotionally crazy asks "whats wrong with you?"

This drives me into more emotional upsets. Is there a website or something out there that will give him a good idea of what I am going through?

I have three kids, 6,4, and 4 months and I am homeschooling. This is new to me. If anyone has any advice please send it!

Anxiety is a frequent symptom of hyperthyroidism, so keep that in mind. I would get ragingly angry when hyper, insomnia, itchy skin, sweating, too hot all the time. So I can understand why your husband thinks you're crazy! You are! But it is the hormones. It really opened my eyes to how these little chemicals in our blood stream affect our personality. When I'm hypothyroid, the opposite condition, nothing can flap me.

Google Carnitine. They had some success in using it to suppress your hyperthyroid symptoms. I wish I'd known about it back when I was hyperthyroid.

It's an amino acid. Dunno about breastfeeding and using it though.

There's a lady named Elaine Moore who has written a lot about Graves disease. You might want to google for her stuff too.

Thanks, I will check out her stuff. This is all new to me. I am usually a person that has it all together. I am the planner but right now it is hard to think straight. I am looking for information that would help my husband better understand what I am going through. I would love to do this the natural way.

Well, you want to be careful because if you have Graves you could go into a thyroid storm and they're fatal about 50% of the time. And like you've said, being hyperthyroid is just miserable.

But the good news is, Graves goes into remission very often so if you can find a good treatment and ride it out you might go into remission. I was rushed into radioactive iodine therapy, which kills the thyroid, and I really regret that now.

Another thing you might try is eating lots and lots of vegetables and foods that are goitrogens (keep the thyroid from producing so much hormone). They're brassicas like cabbage, turnip, brussel sprouts, soy, floride (hopefully your water is floridated). Try to eat them raw because they get destroyed when cooked (the goitrogens in veggies).

I've been hyperthyroid twice, my dr prescribed propranolol, it slows down thyroid production, it kind of brought me down to a calm place- not sure with breast feeding though.

Hang in there, I totally sympathize with you. You'll get through this. Just a suggestion, avoid gluten. Sometimes it is the cause of autoimmune disease.
