Default Newbie question...hives???

We found out last week or thereabouts that my husband's thryoid is somewhat out of whack. We haven't gotten all the recommended tests yet, but it turns up his TSH is high and FT3 was in the low end of the range. That's all we know at this point - in addition to my husband having a lot of the symptoms of hypothyroid.

Anyway - last night - my husband broke out in hives all over his back.

Still there this morning.

Looks like hives to me, but then I'm no expert. Bright red welts all over his back.

Can this wait until Monday? He's got an appt. at his regular family doctor's office on Monday for a 'thryoid consultation' - ie. he's going to ask for more of the different tests and get going on fixing the problem.

What is the significance of hives in relation to a thryoid issue?

Thanks

Hmmm... hadn't heard of hives due to thyroid. I used to get them occasionally before going gluten free.

Have you tried to google for a medical site for them? I think they're usually an allergic reaction and maybe they use an antihistamine for them.

Thanks Nancy - I did go looking on google (after I posted my question ) and it turns out that certain types of thryoid issues can occasionally cause hives.

Thing is - it's not so bad, apparently they aren't bothering him too much, so yeah - it can wait until Monday. I just thought maybe the hives were a clue to the type of thryoid problem. We've got some work to do next week with getting tests and so on.

I was kind of curious if anyone else had experienced this kind of thing.
