Have you all heard of or have you dieted according to this book? I found it at Amazon and wondered if and what I can learn from it.

I"ve been on the Insulin Resistance Diet for 5 weeks and have lost 15 pounds. In addition I am a vegetarian. I have found this program to be easy and logical. I also am not missing my sweets so much since doing this program. The book is only $11.96 on Amazon.com and I think worth every penny.

Hi

I am a semi vegetarian who doesnt like meat apart from some chicken. In the book she has beans counted as a protein which no other low carb plan does. So, I have been wondering do you eat beans and still lose weight? Could you please please, please post a typical days menu here. I would be eternally grateful.

Default I don't know much about

the ir diet, but we are on Adkins and we have added back pinto beans. It seems pinto beans are lower in carbs than navy etc. We are still loosing just fine and my daughters blood sugar is holding steady. We don't eat them but about once or twice a week, but it hasn't stalled us or anything.

I am on the Insulin Resistance Diet, and love it.

No deprivation.

The most cleverest way of controlling carbs I've run across in quite a while!

At least read the book; it's a real easy read, and I highly recommend it. I just ignore the advice about eating low fat though; I only use the carb control advice.

Basically I combine the Insulin Resistance Diet with an eating plan called the Schwarzbein Principle. In essence I created my own eating plan. Works for me!

Spirit, how does the Insulin-Resistance Diet modify TSP for you? I just ordered Protein Power and I'm not ready to buy another book right now, so a few hints would be great! And they may even convince me to go ahead and buy the book.

I just posted this on the veggie board. It gives a broad overview of the plan

The Insulin Resistance Diet would suit you very well because the plan counts dairy produce, beans etc. to be protein sources.

Here's a synopsis of the plan:

--For every 15gm carbs you eat you must eat at least 7gm protein with it.
--Don't eat more than 30gm carbs in one sitting
--Once you've eaten carbs, don't eat any more for at least 2hrs. If you do, those extra carbs go right to fat!

Extra tips:
--Drink 8-8oz glasses of water a day, PLUS another 8oz glass for every 25lbs you are overweight. Water is very important to metabolism.
--Get plenty of fiber. It's also very important to metabolism.
--You can snack, just remember to combine carbs with protein and follow the two hour rule.
--Apples and Oranges don't effect glycemic response, which means they don't dump a bunch of insulin in your system despite the sugar they have. You can eat them without protein if you like.
--I find ways to "cheat" but stay on diet, so I don't feel at all deprived. For instance, I eat Snickers for breakfast practically every day. Common sense tells us we can't be on a diet if we are eating candy, but I drink a pint (16oz) of milk (skim, if anyone is interested) with it so I'm actually following the diet. I also eat a lot of fast food. A McDonald's cheeseburger has 35gm carbs and plenty of protein. I get a Double cheeseburger, no fries, no pop. Just the burger and water. I thought I'd feel deprived because I love fries and pop so much, but I don't. I do cheat and have fries the week of my period to kind of celebrate, but I find that I don't really even want to pop anymore. And it was something I drank almost every day!

Does this plan exclude milk as a carb?? It does have protein, but it also has 11-12g carbs per 8oz...

The protein in milk balances out the carbs, so milk is okay to drink even by itself.

But does the protein in the snickers balance out the carbs? It says that milk is consumed with the snickers, so it's still within the diet guidelines... But if the milk only balances out itself, what balances out the snickers?

The carbs in milk are not supposed to be counted because the book says that carbs in milk and vegetable proteins are used by the body differently. Thus, you can use the protein in milk to balance something else out

So you're answer is yes, you can eat the snickers with milk, provided the protein-to-carb ratio is correct.
