Another good month with niacin. I'm now doing 2.5k, when a bit of nausea turned out to be from the higher doses. Dropping down a bit fixed that.

I also recently got back my ability to eat a big, late, lunch, and fast the rest of the time. There's been considerable mayhem at work, once that resolved, it's like my body said, "Okay, don't need that much at the moment."

Since I take it for anxiety and "cortisol resistance management," the ability to monitor and adjust my dose like this is a fantastic advantage. Unlike standard SSRIs, niacin seems to act quickly and let me figure out what next.

The one meal might be a snag, but I have found I can take one does before and one after, which spaces them out nicely, and I still wind up with three.

Now taking between 1.5 and 2k. Same pattern; feeling a bit of nausea, dropped down, then starting getting a bit of "flush" with the lower dose, which indicates I've hit my sweet spot.

And it makes sense that I am taking less... job finished its reconfiguration, after a couple of months of mayhem, and now I come home with actual energy in my tank!

You don't know what you've got until it's gone.

I tapered down my niacin dosage and things went bad. Lots of work, took on extra gigs for needed money, and I developed a full body allergic reaction.

You don't want your doctor to go "Wow."

So, back to the 3k dosage and feeling better. Sigh.

Good that you were able to work it out by knowing the root cause.

Thanks, TiredFedUP.

I get a little nervous when I research its effects and someone gets hysterical about overdosing or side effects: but I have to remember that I live in an age which hands out dangerous prescription drugs and ignores their side effects.

So I'm actually erring on the side of caution here.

Of all the supplements I've tried and gotten good results from (and there are many) theraupeutic niacin has been the most incredible.
  • lifting of chronic anxiety
  • improved sleep
  • appetite balance and freedom from cravings
  • weight loss
  • lowered inflammation
  • increased energy
  • improved mood

Niacin made fasting a breeze and let me further improve my hormone issues and heal.

I should chill and enjoy.

I read the book I mentioned in the original post on this thread, which was very helpful and gave me the confidence to give it a try.

When resuming the niacin I had flushes for like a week, but now it's back to normal: take it with meals, no flushing, and feel good.

Also dug around a little, and just like when I was researching female hormones to help with menopause, papers don't seem to distinguish between Progestin (which is manipulated for patent purposes and has dangerous side effects) and progesterone, which is biologically identical and has very very few.

So it turns out, a lot of these papers that have been spooking me about "niacin" triggering insulin resistance and the like are similarly sloppy about distinguishing between slow-release, no-flush, niacinamide, jerked around prescription versions, and actual basic niacin, which is what I take.

Worry averted. I will keep calm and carry on. If anything, this regimen makes me crave food I'm supposed to be eating. Which is amazing by any measure. And indicates great blood sugar control.

Well I've ordered some niacin. I'm interested in both mood improvement and circulation boosts. It should take about 10 days to get to me.

So tell me, how long after a niacin dose dose a flush occur? Is it predictably 15 minutes later, or is it one of those things that will sneak up on you at work?

Unpredictable, especially at first. Take it with a meal, and with vitamin C and a B complex.

For me the flush always starts 15-30 minutes after I take it, with food. If you take an aspirin ~30 minutes before the niacin, that can reduce the flushing (though how much is unpredictable. Sometimes there is practically no flushing, other times the aspirin doesn't seem to have an affect).

Yes, I'm looking for chewable vitamin C.... I love the tartness. B complex I already have.

No aspirin in my house. DH has deathly allergy. Thanks for the feedback. Now waiting for my niacin to arrive.
