Default Anyone else on metformin and doing low carb?

I am wondering does anyone else successfully combine the two? I find that when I am on metformin any carb level below 60 leaves me feeling hungry, craving and generally awful. I feel good when I am between 60-80 but I do not lose on that really.

Can anyone share their diet experience with PCOS and metformin?

Thanks!

Me. I admit it took an adjustment to get used to under 30 carbs on it. I had terrible muscle pain and felt like crap. I ended up being very vit b deficient (which is common on met). I take a mega b 2 tablets a day and problem solved.

I take met and lc. I've never thought about it before, but I always seem to have an outragous appetite. Good to see you out and about on the forums.

I'm just about deciding not to go on it as my Dr. suggested. I don't think insulin resistance is my main problem although it is certainly fairly high on the list.

As far as I can tell it doesn't really heal your sensitivity, it just masks it.

Yes I am finding that out. I thought since I have been low carbing so long that I would have healed myself. However this is not what happens evidently.

I also think I have something else going on and am currently being checked out for other health issues which my symptoms fit.

I'm on metformin and lowcarbing as well. I'm trying to lose weight and get my p.c.o.s. under control like so many I've read about so I can stop dealing with the facial hair too and also have a baby.

I seem to be doing ok now but I've had instances where taking metformin and doing low carb my sugar dropped too low. Always a balancing act...and I've started the byetta injections this week as well so definitely not feeling so hot this week.

I am on metformin since april 2007 and on Atkins since june 2007 ... At first ( 2 first months) It was soooooooo hard my sugar levels dropped too low and I felt very down and very very tired!!!! I started taking B Complex and everything changed!!! now I am better than ever I have lost almost 30 pounds and I am very to close to goal!!!

I also take yasmin in order to control my periods...and a dosage of 850 mg of metformin 2 times a day.

Have you been to the soulcysters board? They have a lot of met discussions going on now.

Here's the site just in case you haven't...

Kuu

Yeah I have. I used to be a VERY active member over there. In fact I was a moderator. However now the tone of the site has chanegd and in fact the owner heavily promotes low fat low calorie and says calories are all that matter. So not for me.

No way

I am up three pounds this morning. It is time for me to go back on my metformin obviously. Induction and a 3lb gain????

I need to accept that even though I exercise and eat right I need medication also.

Scarlet, unfortunately some of us need medication to maintain a healthy weight. It's not your fault...just the way things are. Lucky, I'm not IR but I have to stay on yasmin and spironolactone to stay "normal." LC has helped my symptoms tremendously.

I hope you are able to find a regime that works for you. Maybe in a couple months you can reevaluate if things are progressing for you. Best wishes.
