Default The Schwarzbein Followers Where Are You?

I notice something in Schwarzbein form, you guys dont talk much or dont answer much others aside from the same 2-3 people. Your too quite. Maybe no one is following this plan . It would be nice for some that are really following this plan to help out more the newbies cause it is a plan a bit harder to do and to get use to. By all means, I am not saying this to be rude just that this Plan is different and I am sure there are tons of you guys out there that isnt sure about certain things from the S books. Hopefully, we all understand that this way of eating makes more sense then all the other diets out there and for the ones that have started dont give up and hangs in there cause it is slower to see results towards the weight side but faster towards getting healthly. Anyhow, I will try to help out others from what Ive read and what I doing so far cause I am new to this too. Weekends Im not much on the computer so hopefully others can help out.

Hang in there the little Schwarzbein followers.

I personally am really following the plan, and as it should after several years, have adapted it work for my rest-of-my-life lifestyle.

No one plan is 100% perfect for any individual. Our tastes in food vary and our intollerances to some vary as well.

I don't agree with Dr. S on all issues. Therefore I won't follow the plan exactly. For instance, I don't personally do that HRT thing. That's just me.

But I also don't think that can never eat garbage either, and in her latest book I recall reading that none of us are perfect and will have permission to deviate from plan now and then.

After all--that IS part of the plan! We are human, right?

So, I'm not sure what you mean by people who are REALLY following the plan. But I am. And I have for over 3 years now. But my adaptations to fit my lifestyle may not be where you are at.

For that reason, it is BEST to follow what the book says if that is what you are after.

If you after what has worked in the individuals' lifestyles, then this is the place for it.

Wishing you the best on your plan! --Betty

PS this has NEVER been a very busy forum since I've been here, altho there have been a few more a few years ago. I think most of us who do participate and have been around for a while have been successful at making the lifestyle change.

I think part of it may be that this is more of a lifestyle then a diet. I've been doing this for a couple of years now and don't really consider myself on "Schwarzbein". There aren't really major results on this plan either, although I can report that I recently lost a couple of pounds . Unfortunately this weight loss coincides with weaning my baby and I think all those pounds came off my chest . So really, once you get used to this, it seems like there's not much to talk about, just the same old same old. I could come on more often and talk about trying to heal my adrenal/thyroid problems, but who wants to hear my whining? Come to think of it, I'd love to hear from someone who has been there with the adrenal thing cause this sucks! Is there any hope?

Hi guys...like i said, i didnt want this to sound rude whatsoever...just i find it quite in here...and yes Betty, about Dr. S's HRT, i am not convinced either...maybe cause im new to this...dont know...Jende, i dont have a problem with my thyroid just had my results in but i wanted to get my adrenal check or cortisol and asked my geno and she said to ask my family doc since he did the blood test...so i did and he said your geno should do it...blah blah blah...i think they are throwing the ball here...anyhow, he said it will take a year to see a specialist , you know, you think you live in canada and we are suppose to have the best medicare system in the world...ya right! dont know whats happening anymore with this so call system but i among others in canada thinks its starting to suck big time...anyhow, i will find out faster then that...i will bust his chops everyday till he gets fed up of me i have the same symptoms as a thyroid problem so i am sure i need that cortisol test...have you looked into your cortisol Jende?

Canada's healthcare system is sooo wonderful. They think if they keep telling us that we will actually believe it. Our system actually rates pretty low worldwide. People say medicare is great...provided you don't get sick. What I can tell for sure is that it is expensive for us the little taxpayers. This is why your doctor doesn't want to spend the money on a cortisol test for you. That and they will look at you and say, this woman doesn't have Addison's disease. I don't want to sound down on doctors, but my experience is that if I don't have some easy blood level to support my symptoms they pat me on the head and tell me to go home and get some rest. I've been told to wait for stuff to get worse then come back and maybe I'll have a condition they can diagnose. So the lesson I have taken from that is, if you are clearly dying, go see your doctor. This is why I have turned to Naturopathic care. I have had much better experiences with health care that I have to pay out of my own pocket for. Enough ranting.

I have not had my cortisol tested, but my adrenal fatique is painfully obvious. I think the more accurate way to have your cortisol tested is through saliva testing and your doctor will not do this. I also have all the classic symptoms of hypothyroidism, but my TSH is normal. Dr. S talks about this in one of her books. I'm probably converting to reverse T3 instead of the active form of T3, or something or other, but the problem does not show up just by having my TSH checked. If you are having thyroid symptoms, then something is definitely up. The hard part is figuring out what. When adrenals are low, so often is thyroid and probably vice versa. It's a matter of figuring out which is the culprit that is throwing the rest of your system off.

New to site -- have been following SP for four months. Immediately thought "I don't feel half dead anymore!" But only now is the weight starting to go. How long for some of you out there to see actual weight loss. And yes, like she said in her books, first I gained some weight. But I stayed with it because I just felt so much better and stronger.

Lanny, I think Jende is on to something about lifestyle changes. Also as I have stated on this board in the past , with this plan there really isn't a need to post about special recipes or places to buy some fake food to substitute for a real one -- so long lists of recipes are not needed. you just eat real food without the sugar out of all whole & healthy food groups ie, protein/carbs/fats. So that may be one reason it is not so busy. But, yes an exchanging experiences and how we adapt/customize is important and helpful.

THe Betty is a shining example of gradual but consistent weight loss on the plan, and has offered many great recipes. I have seen many levels of weight loss from various posters. Maybe if you look at some of the older posts you will find more of what you are looking for .

My experience has been that when I followed the advice from the first bk. , limiting my healthy/real carbs to about 20 per meal and getting reasonable exercise that I lost weight, felt balanced, energetic and the evil scale went down gradually.

I am going to try to stick with the basics in the first book and have just had time to try to finish the latest one ( I have been real busy -- it isn't very big!) I recently went back to trying Suzanne Somer's food combining /level one for a few weeks ( which Dr.S said in her latest bk to *not food combine* I just reviewed those paragraphs and it is very true of my attepts at food combining) but like a dummy in a hurry to lose tried it again-- lost a few lbs. initially then remembered why I had stopped years ago -- the reasoning in Dr. S's latest bk is true and what I have observed. In fact I am going to try to figure out how to change my profile info and just *commit* to TSP. As LessMom said --you just feel better! I guess it is very true that first one must become healthy then a healthy person becomes the correct weight.

In the United States I think most people experience the only time one gets a lot of medical attention is if near death. Insurance rules the treatments if one has it. Even good Dr.'s will not run many of what is considered non-essential tests (by insurance companies.) That makes it difficult for the average income TSPer to have all the testing done that is talked about.Much of it would be out of pocket on a PPO and scoffed at on a HMO. I know the testing on her site is out of my reach economically.

Jende, have you gone to about.com for info on thyroid , they have a message bd. also with a lot of helpful posters. I have found that the closer I stick with TSP the better I feel with my Hashi's thyroidism .But one does need to get the right diagnosis and rx. I have done well on cytomel & synthroid. Dr.S's bks. helped me realize that those may be a better combo that Armour's as it can be ( I could not find a Dr. that would prescribe that anyway. )

Thanks for your reply Rosarugosa! Actually, I'm too new to the site to have figured out if there are any "live" posts. Also, whatever posts I'm seeing under the general list for SP followers -- except for you and me -- are at least a month old! Which is why I started with Lanny's post -- where are the SP followers?!

I know what you mean. I feel empathy for the Maytag Repairman when I come here sometimes . In the past it has been livlier. For me though I know that it works. The closer I follow TSP the better I feel and the more her wisdom 'clicks' into my brain-- aha-- that is what I read about in TSP books!

An example about 2 years ago I was following carefully the principles of balancing meals and eating as much as 20 carbs per meal, using only stevia as a sweetener, moderately exercising including gentle ones every so often such as tai chi & yoga along with some resistance, and moderate walking. I always have difficulty including the small snacks, but was doing better at the time with that. Lo and behold when I went to a Dr.'s appointment I weighed the least I had in a long time (and you know how you usually weigh more on a Dr's scale it seems.) I hadn't had time to weigh for about a month then. I was surprised, but then thought --hey it really works!

There is something in me that always is searching for a 'quick fix' so I tried a few of those since then , got discouraged after the initial few lbs. of loss, then during the winter months I tend to abandon any reasonable plan to my detriment . I know now that I just need to stick with this TSP as close as possible . I think that includes not *obsessing* over everything and maybe not posting very much -- just doing it. But I will come here some during the week. Any one else find that they obsess if they try to post daily?

I think an underlying theme in all of the TSP bks. is that *it takes time to build your body into a quaility item*. Her bks. never have personal endorsements of "I lost 20 lbs. in 3 weeks" for a reason . That is not what she encourages.

I would love to hear from some of the 'old timers' that feel sucessful at TSPing and are still with it.

Also great to hear from all. But either way I know it works! I vow to stick with TSP and try to post every now and then on how it is going or share a new recipe if I come across it.

Been SP for quite a while now. Was one of the "originals" around here when the SP forum was more active. Several of us are just not at our computers as much being in a better state of health than previously. A couple of us have gone and gotten jobs away from home.

The best way to loose weight faster while being on her program is to stay away from grains, using starchy veggies and low glycemic fruits as carbs. Stay off caffiene and sugar. Really eat 5 or 6 times a day. Don't exercise too much. Walk and do light weights a couple times a week. Take whatever supplements are recommended for any conditions you may have that she discusses.

I went from a 12 to a 6 and have never felt better.

Maybe it's my age and how far gone I am, but I feel lousy and SB hasn't helped. It makes the most sense and I'll keep trying but I'm so tired. I can't even exercise because I'm exhausted after work. It seems pretty overwhelming still. I can do about 5 minutes on the gazelle - a nice little gadget. I can barely walk a block. I'm too tired to cook. I want something to make me feel better quick and that's keeping me hooked on carbs. It's easier for me to avoid them altogether than to eat them moderately. I haven't been able to lose the craving for sweet tastes either. For me it's a struggle. I think it's the best plan - but I can't get with it.

Had the same trouble myself! I do GREAT on low-carb - blood sugar stable, not unreasonable hungry. However, without the carbs I can't exercise. I just don't agree with Dr.S and the low level of exercise she recommends - all the studies on runners show them to be far healthier than the average population, for example. I decided to go back to carb cycling. However, I do plan to stick to mostly whole foods - I just feel better eating them. Oh, and in general I come and go on this forum. I always feel a bit out-of-place because I don't have any weight to lose.

I have to agree with her on the exercise issue. Whether or not one is insulin resistant may have a lot to do with the stress of exercise. I discovered to my surprise and dismay that walking more than half a mile (not fast either) causes my blood sugar to go up and stay there for hours. The stress caused by exercise, beyond my limited capacity, overwhelms any good that I might have accomplished by doing it. Carbs before exercise is out of the question because of my diabetes and because of it extra carbs only makes me feel like going to sleep. This is why Schwarzbein seems right for me.
