Default Parathyroid issues & Hypercalcemia

In Dec 2008, we found out my calcium levels were very high. My levels were at 11.8 and from my understanding it is supposed to be around 10.2 (or less). I also had extremely high parathyroid hormone levels. I had a slew of tests run and it was determined I had a tumor on one of my parathyroid glands.

Parathyroid hormone levels are supposed to be around 65, mine were 219. By the time I had my surgery to remove the tumor in May 2009, my pth levels were at 268. By the time we did surgery, my calcium level was as high as 12.6!

The tumor was benign but large - parathyroid glands are usually about the size of a kernel of rice. With the tumor mine was the size of an egg. They only removed 1 of my parathyroid glands, so I still have 3 remaining.

My endocrinologist office monitors my calcium levels every 3 months, along with my A1C. It has not gone too far out of normal range in the years since my surgery. The most it has gone over is .3 and the next set of lab work, it was back within normal range.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue?
