Default Very loose bowels

I've been on Atkins now for 2.5 weeks and, right from the second day, my bowels became very loose. I wasn't concerned at first because I figured my body would get used to the diet and this would get back to normal. This has not happened. In fact, I believe it is getting worse. What's happening?

Is there any food you've introduced into the diet that you didn't eat before? I used to have a problem with bouillon, it didn't matter if it was homemade or storebought. Making it with something acidic like vinegar kept me from having a problem. Some people have a problem with coconut oil, I did too for a while.

Also, have you added any supplements, like Magnesium? That, like extra oils may need to be increased more slowly.

When I switch from high carb, low fat to a higher fat diet, it takes my body some time to adjust to the higher fat content. The higher fat causes me loose stools.

Yeah, examine any new foods and eliminate them for a while. Or foods you're eating regularly now that you didn't before. And that includes oils, like coconut oil. Stuff is like greased lightning in my gut.

Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas. The biggest change in my diet is the addition of fats which I had all but eliminated over the last 10 years. Guess that must be it.

You could try ox bile. I have to use it now due to GB removal. "Gallbladder in a bottle" I call it. I find it works great, but you have to eat enough.

Have you been eating the Atkins bars or shakes? The artificial sugars could easily have caused your issues.

Going back to this, if it hasn't resolved yet, it depends on the color and formation of your stools.

If its greeny/yellow and very loose and immediate, that can mean too much bile is being released and not being used. Try calcium carbonate for that problem. I just take Tums 2x a day. With no GB I get this when intermittent fasting or just not eating enough.

If its just greasy loose stool, that can mean you're not digesting fat, and then the ox bile might help.

But it may already be resolved because as others stated, it can take your body a while to start releasing enough bile to digest the fat.

When that happens to me the first thing I look at is the amount of fat I'm eating. If that seems normal I figure it's stress.

For me it is the type of oil. Coconut oil and MCT oil are powerful laxatives for a lot of folks.

I found Coconut oil a surprisingly (Too Good for me) powerful laxative.
