Default Tasting food, bg & insulin

When I taste food while cooking, what effect does that have on bg & insulin? I'm talking little tastes, not huge spoonfuls. And generally lc foods, not my husband's potatoes. I know better than to taste that!

I remember a t1 lady from years back who would taste food she made for her family, but spit out the bite. I'm not as disciplined as she was.

Did Dr. B address this?

Actually, a lot of chefs do the same. As do professional wine and beer tasters. But if what you are tasting is LC, and you're going to have it to eat, anyway, I don't see any harm, really.

I taste while cooking, too and have wondered the same. I figure if it's low carb and near meal time, it should be fine, but if it's hours away, it's not good, because I fast between meals and it will raise insulin which I am trying to keep low.

That's what I was wondering. Some things get made - & tasted - an hour or more before the meal. I also fast between meals. But I read somewhere (here?) & I hope I'm getting it right, that even smelling food can raise insulin. So tasting certainly would.

Of course, when I cook our usual lc food, it's not a problem - I rarely have to taste. Tho today I did - I made tuna quiche & didn't have any chili peppers so I used chili paste instead. I had to taste because I wasn't sure how much to put in. Turned out to be 2 tablespoons - tasted great.

That's what prompted my question because the tasting was a good 45 minutes before the meal.
