Default A1C Results

Hi everyone, I have been on the low carb way of eating for three months now. My A1C test results prior to low carb was 8.6. The rest of my blood work was very good. Today my A1C results was 6.8 but my total cholesterol had gone up to 213, triglycerides 61, HDL 47 and my LDL was 154. Is this normal or can I expect these numbers to go back down.

There are those on this forum who can give you more specific links to the changes in blood work when first beginning to eat LC.

Google some applicable phrases and search out some more info. Here's a start:

Congrats on that huge improvement in A1c in a short time, and I think your lipid panel looks almost perfect. Your Trigs are already lower (better) than Optimal (70). Your HDL is good but it will get even better (higher) (optimal also 70) over time. HDL is slowest to respond to LC diet. This from Dr Westman's and JMoore's Cholesterol Clarity book. We Have a whole forum on cholesterol:
http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=48 Read back through some recent threads..lots of good links and notes how to raise HDL naturally.

Btw, LDL is not measured, just calculated off a formula, and once your Trigs are low, below 100, all bets are off that the formula even works.

Congratulations, Jeepe1, on getting your A1c down so quickly! It took me ages to get down to 6.8 - which is where I am now. But then, I'm a slow learner. It's taken me a while to understand that I must keep my total (not net) carbs down to 10/day.

Like you, my cholesterol numbers went up - but I'm not going to worry about them. I've done enough reading that I don't think those numbers mean much of anything.
