OK, L-Carnitine arrived today and I opened DANDR and read that you should take it if you are not losing or losing very little. I have been losing steady for few days now so my question is - should I still take L-Carnitine or onle take it if I stall?

VESS if you go the the Atkins website it L-Carnitine is listed as

"Supplements that Safely Help You Lose Weight"

http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/11/30-273880.html

It's not necessarily for a stall. It also states FOR WEIGHT LOSS A TYPICAL DOSE IS 1,500 MG'S A DAY (500 before each meal).

It also suggests that CoQ10 enhances the affects of L-Carnitine. I would go with what Atkins says, after all isn't it his program that we are following?

Good luck and I'll tell you how the L-Carnitine helps me, I'm on the second full day!

Good stuff! I only have to see how my budget can accomodate that dosage !

I have come to the conclusion that it can only happen if I quit smoking - here another good thing has come out of the Atkins diet!
I have asked friends to check prices in Bulgaria (that's where I am from). Someone said the cost is about $7 but it's not confirmed yet and I am not sure how many in a bottle, how many mg, etc. The cheapest I found in UK is $43 for 120 capsules/500mg

So I have enough for a month - I'll update how it goes too

Vess, it's good to see your desire to quit smoking also.. That's great! It looks like Atkins is going to transform you into a heathly (therefore happy) person! Well keep on with the L-Carnitine, let me know how it goes and I will do the same. I do feel I've lost in the last couple of days but only time and the scale will tell.
Donna in the ATL! hehehe... (my husband went to school there).. anyway, I'd wonder about the mg's or the quality if it's that cheap. Everything I found is anywhere between $30-$40 (US or Cdn.) for 60 at 500mg's each. I'll check out the site... Good luck to all!

UUURGH!!! Went to Wal-mart today and they quit carrying it!!! That was the best value for the mg I have found. Now they have the one that is mixed with.... what is it? Acetyl. Then I went to Target-- they are all out. I have 5 more days before I really get desperate. lol

I order my l-carnitine from www.puritan.com 800-645-1030 You might want to request a free book, once you get on their mailing list you will get emails and free booklet whenever they have a sale. I have been ordering for over 15 years and never disapointed with my orders or found more economical any where else.

L-Carnitine with Atkins Accel might make you a bit jittery since both have stimulants... I would suggest calling Atkins if you are in North America. 1-800-2-ATKINS to be sure. www.atkins.com They also have a Australian and UK site which may have a number to call also.

Well I've read this thread with interest and bought some L carnitine, the tartrate sort, from Reflex. Paid £24 for 120 500mg. Hope it'll help me shift the weight I put on whilst I was ill. Fingers crossed!

Almost 12--thanks for the info..
The thing to watch is the dosage you take. I don't know if you're going to get a dose that will be beneficial for weight loss taking the ones that you are.

It states FOR WEIGHT LOSS A TYPICAL DOSE IS 1,500 MG'S A DAY (500 on an empty stomach).

http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/11/30-273880.html

It also suggests that CoQ10 as 100mg a day.
