Welcome PhylZ!! From a fellow diabetic...I started in April with the goal of getting off all medication and so far the results have been really good, I Just need a bit of patience but the numbers are proving it for themselves. If you want the same you have come to the right place. Start a journal, follow people, one meal, one hour, one day - one lb at a time, WE can do this!!!

Welcome,
In addition to the threads above, here is the link to the whole Diabetes Forum where those threads are found. http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=45

You could start taking your blood sugar readings now and show the doctor the improvements made on your own with diet before the appointment. An excellent guide here on how to Reverse T2 Diabetes. https://www.dietdoctor.com/diabetes The LCHF diet for beginners linked there, using the stricter level of carbs at 20g or Ketogenic, is a great introduction to low carb eating. It was based on Dr Westman's clinic diet, so really is same as the video of the Duke class above, but in a cleaner format. And if you are going to read a LC book, WhyWe Get Fat by Gary Taubes, is excellent and that book also has that same diabetes diet in the back.

Another good introduction to what to eat with diabetes in five even simpler rules is Dr Hallberg's TED talk, 18 minutes, now has had 2 million views.
