Hi,

I was diagnosed as having PCOS a few months ago. After doing alot of research on the internet I have found that my doctor left out alot of information. It is just by chance that I stumbled on to this site and read all the stories of low carb diets. I am not currently over weight but find that I have to work extra hard to keep from gaining weight. Does anyone know that if I am not over weight should I still follow the low carb diet? Anyone on glucophage? Notice any results? If there is anyone who is in the same position as myself, I sure would appreciate your input!

yeh my doc told me hardly anything about it neither, just as well that i found this site cz its taught me more then doc has

im on metformin think it is the same as glucophage it was nasty the few 1st weeks, had to adjust. stomach cramps, feelin sick lost apetite at one point so had to stop the heathly eatin to eat any thing i could so i didnt make myslef ill, havent yet taken that back up yet, but hav noticed a little bit of a weight loss. i personaly dont think that a healthy low carb diet helps with the losin weight i think its all down to the exercise. however low carbs will help the PCOS its self and will lower the risk of developin diabetes later on. my GYN explained it to me that when you eat carbs ur body thinks of it as a free meal and doesnt break it down cause its mainly glucose and thats something to do with bein insulin resisitant cz ur body mite not be able to keep up with producin insulin to meet the demands, but im not sure how accurate i have that

wat do u mean in the same posistion as u? u mean about not bein givin much info?

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I've been doing a lot of research and I am starting to feel much better. It's nice to know that there are other people with this who understand. What I was concerned about was the low carb thing. I am of average weight and do not need to lose any more. So, what I meant by if there was anyone else in the same situation ie: don't need to lose weight but were still doing a low carb diet!?! I met with my doc again today and he suggested that instead of doing full blown low carbs that I just cut back on refined sugars, like all the good stuff to eat

Thanks again for your response!

Michelle

wel im not a expert but it will be best to maintain ur weight (coz with PCOS i hear it goes up sudenly) and low carbin and low refind sugars intake will still be beneficial in it all cause my gyn sed to me that if i carry on eatin pasta and stuff il be diabetic in a few years coz the pancreas is thought to be the main prob with PCOS and cant keep up with the demand of insulin (pasta is glucose) and i hear its good to check ur glysemic index to but i dont no how to work all that out

theres not alot of research in PCOS yet but hopefully soon there will be more on it so we no what to eat and wat to avoid, but yeh id say cut carbs down and sugar
