I never said that extended VLC
always or even
usually causes "metabolic problems." [whatever those might be]
I was very specific in my comments, which was that extended VLC
may cause (and has been demonstrated
to cause) in some people a specific T4/T3 problem, to wit: that T4 converts not to the metabolically active T3, but to the metabolically inactive rT3.
I also opined that upon further study of the newly discovered gene (which affects about 16% of the population) that also does this, it is my belief that the following
may be found [please note the use of the word 'may' rather than the word 'will']:
-- Women are more likely to have it than men.
-- It's expression (on, vs. off) may well be triggered via epigenetics by extended VLC or extended very low calorie intake the way high carb intake is now believed to be an epigenetic expression trigger for a multitude of some very bad genes indeed. And even for bacteria like the one that causes ulcers.
Obviously, only more study will provide the answers to this.
