I have an old rebounder that I used for years but somehow it got stuffed into storage so I don't have it handy. I love rebounding but I've never done any fancy jumping, just the health bounce. My 80 yr old uncle does his bouncing every morning and has for 20 years...he's in great shape for 80.

I also have my Callanetics book but I have to admit that I find it difficult to do. My muscles never stretched out and I always had to quit because of intense muscle cramping. I'm just now realizing that I've been deficient in magnesium for decades and the muscle cramping and spasms is a classic indicator. Maybe when I get enough magnesium in, I can try Callanetics again.

Hi, Deb. Thanks for posting about your uncle. I'm not 80 yet, but it's encouraging to read about other seniors enjoying rebounding.

I modify my Callanetics routine so that it works for me. There are exercises in the videos, DVDs and books that I just don't do. I could do more strenuous exercise when I was younger, but not now. I also divide my routine into exertion, rest, and stretch phases. I do a pulsing/exertion exercise, rest for a few breaths, and do another exertion, or a stretch. I also do the routine in stages at different times of the day, if it seems too much to do my whole routine at once that day.

I'm learning to put less pressure on myself to fulfill some notion of keeping an arbitrary standard. I figure whatever exercise I do, be it gentle or a bit challenging, is a help.

Magnesium is one of those "miracle" supplements for me. It balances many things.

I really like your signature line.

Hope your day is going very nicely.

Thought I'd post a link to some info about rebounding, in case anyone is considering this:

Deb, have you thought about picking up a Callanetics DVD? The originals are very dated-looking, but if you ignore that, the exercised are fantastic, and she keeps reminding you to do only what your body is ready for. I find the DVD is a lot easier to follow along with than the book, personally. If I could just remember to keep it up for two or three times a week, my clothes would fit a lot better!

Default New here

Hi. I'm new here. Just found this site. I did a search. I am in mid 50's and
starting to bounce again. I last did it for a few months 2 yrs ago. I even left
the rebounder outside cuz no room in the house so it got all stretched out
and saggy. I bought a new one a couple days ago. It's nice and taut.
I didn't use it today cuz i ate a full meal and i know you're not supposed to
excercise after eating cuz you could get nauseas cuz body is using all energy
to digest and not excercise. So i will start tomorrow. I did try on the saggy
one and i can only do ten minutes 2x a day. That seems to work for me. I got
an excercise cd with the bouncer and oh my god i don't think i can do what
that lady did. She sure was in shape tho. She did say not to lay down right
after bouncing. Guess ya gotta kool down first. I didn't know that. I would
lay down on the bouncer right after to rest and the dog would lay next to
me. Sorta lazy like i guess.

Even tho i am "only" 121 lbs at 5ft 4 i still need to get down to 110 cuz then
blood pressure will get lower i was told and it's a little high. So my goal is
110 and that's hard mentally cuz i have this fear of being TOO thin. I saw
my mom and dad all skin and bones when they died so now i have a fear
of being too skinny. A catch 22 i guess. Still it's supposed to be much more
healthier to be thinner. Like i got the swine flu 2 yrs ago and i was deathly
sick and i lost ten pounds EASY and went to 110....so then i was afraid i
was TOO thin and i kept eating and went to 125. I'm 121 now and doing
the Atkins diet. Just trying to limit my carbs to under 100. I eat mainly
chiken and fish, veggies, fruit.

Default I did 30 min. today....

I did it to music and it was real easy and fun. I tried for at least ten min.
and then i did 5 more and another 5 more until i did a total of 30. I did it at
a medium pace and it was real easy to music. My kitchen is bigger so i have
the rebounder in the middle of the floor, but sometimes i push it near the
table and i can hold onto the edge and then it's even easier. I realized NOT
to look at the clock. Or rather not to KEEP looking at the clock. It goes much
faster that way. So i bounce and every now and then i will glance at the
clock. Super easy and fun with the music. I was told by a health orientated
friend a long time ago that you need at least 20 min. of continuous bouncing
to drain the lymph glands real good. Of couse ANY amount of time is better
than nothing and i think ten min. at a time is a real good start. And it's super
easy just doing the health bounce and not taking feet off bouncer. Holding
onto a table edge is even super super easier! I might try ten min. at nite if i
have time. I need to lose ten pounds. I know it doesnt' sound like much, but
those ten can easily run up to 20 in a short time and ESPECIALLY since it's
winter and people do eat more. So tue. nite i had chicken, some califlour,
four sticks of celery cuz it's supposed to lower the blood pressure, 2 slices
of bread i could not resist , but i dipped it in good olive oil instead of using
butter......and later on i cheated by eating some roasted sunflower seeds.
So i'm gonna buy the raw soon cuz it's better for ya. So then i felt real
heavy and gotta try better today. I plan on eating out and just having
the chinese FISH....shrimp,scallops and some other kind with lots of veggies,
and NO soup cuz too salty. I got lots of califlour on sale and chopped and
froze it. Is califlour a starch/carb? Marie

Hi Marie.

Sounds like you've got some good goals and plans there.
You might want to start a journal so you can have "a place of your own" to track your progress, and it not get swallowed up with other threads and posts.

I've been wanting to get back into rebounding more. Hopefully I'll get back into the habit soon. Cauliflower is not starchy, fortunately. Have you ever tried fixing them like mashed potatoes? VERY good.

I wish you all success.

Default Did another 30 min. wed nite

Hi....no i never tried califlour like mashed. Do you add (butter)? and salt and
pepper? I use a tiny bit of butter and i bought the liquid squirt margerine. It
says 0 sodium for 5 squirts. Of course i use more than 5 so i wonder how
much sodium is THAT? It doesn't say. Then there's another brand of liquid
margerine that says 15 mg. per 5 squirts. It's the salt i have to be careful
of and even tho i am on the "lighter" side, don't drink, (maybe a beer once a
wk), and don't smoke i guess my stress level is high enough to raise the
pressure - who knows?! But i stay under 1,000 mg of sodium a day....OH....
i read in a health bk that Dulse has a salty taste, but is extremely low in
sodium. The taste is from all the minerals. So i bought some and it's yummy.
The liquid margerine is best cuz the hard stuff is hydrogenated and clogs the
arteries and since i'm older i'm sure mine are already half there!

Bounced for 30 min. wed. nite to music again. Got a little tired, legs started
to hurt and felt weak when done. Got a bad back so am pushing myself. I will
have to see how it goes. Then i got this idea of dimming the lights to make
the "mood" and i put in a red light bulb and that helped a lot with the good
music. I bought a little timer so now i can set it instead of glancing at the
stove clock, and i bought two little 2 pounder hand weights for my hands.
I used them half the time. I think that's why my legs hurt more cuz of the
extra weight. Hard to grab onto the edge of the kitchen table too with
weights so i only used half the time. I did notice tho that after i bounced
earlier in the day and i went out shopping i mentally felt real good. Maybe
it's endorphins or something?
